Keep in mind that the bill that passed the Senate only would have kept the government open for around 7 weeks (December 21 through February 8). If the same bill was reintroduced and passed by both houses today, it would only re-open the government for a month. Or if it was amended to provide the same 7 weeks of funding as the Dec. 19 bill, it would keep the government open only until the end of February.
The bills passed by the House on January 3 would reopen all parts of the government except DHS through September and would open DHS through February 8.
So, if Trump offers as a "compromise" a short-term funding mechanism identical to the one that passed the Senate, should the Democrat say that ship has sailed or take the deal and see what happens?
