These TV networks will let Trump use prime time to talk about immigration -- When Obama Tried it

These TV networks will let Trump use prime time to talk about immigration — here’s what they did when Obama tried it

. . . . . . .

Conservative pundits were, at the time, pushing the notion that Obama was essentially seizing power like a Latin American dictator, so essentially anything that refocused the conversation on banal policy details would have played to his advantage. TV networks, however, didn’t give him what he wanted, in part because it was November sweeps time, but officially because he was playing partisan politics rather than addressing a true national emergency.

Moreover, Vox notes, the networks did give airtime to President George W. Bush in 2006 to discuss immigration — and his position was essentially the same as Obama’s. It is difficult to escape the conclusion that the networks are simply more willing to give Republicans the floor than Democrats, which is also backed up by the heavy imbalance towards conservatives in Sunday talk show lineups.

They raised the fact that they did not carry Obama. Mica is clear - the networks should not cover this. Joe is now discussing the fact that they did not carry Obama and that the Con will lie about an imaginary crisis at the border.

All the free airtime he wanted. No rebuttals, just pure propaganda. It was disgraceful. NOW they expect us to believe they have actually "seen the light" on this clown? WE all knew what an ass he was right from the start. How stupid were they not to see that? Unless, oh no! - they were sucking up for invites to Mar-A-Lago.

However, I do believe them and appreciate their fact-checking. We can't have enough of that. Whether or not the bad blood started over that infamous Mar-A-Lago New Year's party or not, the more the merrier when it comes to piling on the Orange Idiot. To be fair to EVERYONE who gave Trump free rein, nobody took him seriously. Lesson learned, I hope.

I listen to some Joe every morning. They tear Trump's lies apart every day. Just a minute ago they had a little clip of Joe interrupting Trump's talk to the UN to call out his lies. I think they do a good job. When some station has some coverage of Trump talking for a long time, I turn it off. But, they are doing some good things.
I think you have to be open or you do miss the good things. If you just shut everything or everyone who has ever said something you don't agree with, aren't you just as closed minded as Trump's base?

We have a relative who visits annually. All she watches are the sob stories on Lifetime and some years back I noticed that most of their ads were from big pharma. Then I started paying attention on other channels.
I usually crack up when they list the side effects, any one of which appears to kill you faster than the initial problem.

When I was younger, I dismissed the potential side effects thinking that they HAD to list EVERYTHING they could think of to keep themselves from being sued. As I educated myself, I learned they are listing actual outcomes of the administration of their drug to healthy subjects in a clinical trial. HEALTHY subjects! SH*T!! That's different! People don't realize and they don't take those potential side effects seriously.

By the way, I went looking for your Deleria poem but came up empty handed. Sorry.

Would you settle for this:

In a flower show, Ned from Australia,
Painted his butt like a dahlia,
For colour and size,
it won the first prize
But the smell, was a hell
Of a failure.

corporate fascist son-of-a-bitch. Shirer's description of Hitler's Germany is so prophetic it raises the hackles on the back of my neck:

William L. Shirer said it best:
Tue, 03/23/2010 - 15:29 — angry young man
In chapter eight of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," Shirer writes, seemingly of Hitler, Goebbels, and the “news”:
"I myself was to experience how easily one is taken in by a lying and censored press and radio in a totalitarian state. Though unlike most Germans I had daily access to foreign newspapers, especially those of London, Paris and Zurich, which arrived the day after publication, and though I listened regularly to the BBC and other foreign broadcasts, my job necessitated the spending of many hours a day in combing the German press, checking the German radio, conferring with nazi officials and going to party meetings. It was surprising and sometimes consternating to find that notwithstanding the opportunities I had to learn the facts and despite one's inherent distrust of what one learned from Nazi sources, a steady diet over the years of falsifications and distortions made a certain impression on one's mind and often misled it. No one who has not lived for years in a totalitarian land can possibly conceive how difficult it is to escape the dread consequences of a regime's calculated and incessant propaganda. Often in a German home or office or sometimes in a casual conversation with a stranger in a restaurant, a beer hall, a cafe, I would meet with the most outlandish assertions from seemingly educated and intelligent persons. It was obvious that they were parroting some piece of nonsense they had heard on the radio or read in the newspapers. Sometimes one was tempted to say as much, but on such occasions one was met with such a stare of incredulity, such a shock of silence, as if one had blasphemed the Almighty, that one realized how useless it was even to try to make contact with a mind which had become warped and for whom the facts of life had become what Hitler and Goebbels, with their cynical disregard for truth, said they were" (247-48).

[For what it’s worth.]
