I encourage our candidates to ignore such questions as if the reporter isnt even standing there.

(17,984 posts)Stacey Abrams: Not good enough to run in 2020 because she didn't win in Georgia. Doesn't have the charisma.
Beto O'Rourke: Most wonderful person ever! So full of charisma. He MUST be president!
I'll leave it to you to decide what the difference is between the two.

(7,888 posts)should any reporter ask, your question makes you a very unlikable and biased reporter. Then, include the taped incident in a campaign message. The media may play it on a gotcha loop that can work to a candidates advantage.
It should be a surrogate doing all the negative and attack responses for the media consumption. imo

Not this woman.

(32,094 posts)They have to be "likeable", while the sack of shit who is currently squatting in that job is the most unlikeable individual to ever step foot on American soil. And, these people are fine with that. And, ffs, they're not running to be America's BFFE. They're running to be an executive. It's sad and appalling that our country has lowered itself to this kind of juvenile, stupid mentality. We're definitely in the Idiocracy, that's for sure.

(15,265 posts)Post mortems of the 2016 election found the tRump and Hillary were the #1 and #2 least popular nominees on record and it changed the dynamics of the race.
The right wing and their propaganda wing had vilified Hillary for over two decades.
Despite that and with election tampering both foreign and domestic she nearly won.
I would not hesitate voting for Senator Warren but of course a candidates popularity is a factor.

(7,412 posts)Dukakis, Kerry, and Kennedy were popular in Massachusetts but could never really connect with the majority of the populace.
This isn't new or always directed at women either, there was a piece on John Kerry's "likability" every damn day in 2004. Dukakis was not likable either according to the media and polling. It's the same story every time someone from Massachusetts is involved. Bill Clinton was hailed as likable, as was Obama, they tried to sell us John Edwards as the affable likeable golden boy, so likability is not always a Democrat problem either. Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor (surprise), not likable enough nationally, especially against Obama but who would be.

(23,337 posts)during the 2016 election...we pay our staff to go to lunch and vote on election day if they don't vote early...and one of our guys came back and said he voted but did not vote for president because he just didn't like HRC or MF45. In Montana, that's a vote for the MF for gawd's sake. When I pressed this guy, he came back with "I don't like tRump but I really don't like her." I was so pissed! I said " You don't have to like her...you don't have to have her over for dinner...you don't have to be FB friends...One of these candidates is qualified to be president and the other one isn't".
