How Trump could get out of his predicament with grace

Now I doubt that this will happen, but there is a graceful way out of his self-inflicted gov shutdown. It is to simply agree to what Pelosi and Schumer have offered and tell McConnell to bring the bill for a vote. He doesn't have to explain anything. Or he could claim that Americans need their paychecks. That would be the graceful way out of it. To simply admit that his wall has been defeated, like a poker player folding a losing hand.

Alas, Trump is not gracious.

such a distraction would make everyone forget about the shutdown, at least for a while.

If his handlers could convince him that this would be a winning strategy, he might accept that.

But FOX media personalities might attack him as weak.

If they don't tell Trump to end the shutdown.

That should do it.

Every day he remains in office, he makes a bigger mess for his successor to clean up.

I don't expect him to do it now. He has to feel like he has won, and the only way he can feel like he won is if it looks like his adversary completely loses.

nothing else needs to be said. He wont bow out gracefully. I fully expect him to burn down the American government before admitting he's lost. Only way that he admits defeat is if the GOP comes to him and says they no longer can support him. And we all know that will NEVER happen. Trump has the party by the jewels.

I guess in his addled head being thought a fool is worse than being thought to be an uncaring asshole.

Many psychology students are going to earn their doctorates by analyzing the tweets of the most maladjusted human being to hold the office of president.

Remember when we found out that he basically told Nieto that he didn’t care if Mexico paid for the wall? He just needed to not be told no publicly?

Tell him we can talk about the wall once the government reopens. Unless Rush and the witch bring it up again, it won’t matter whether some bogus discussion ever happens.

I kind of like Fox’s approach better “we aren’t paying for your f’ing wall”

But alas, honor is not something that Trump understands. Honor to Trump is a golfing trophy on the book shelf. Honor as personal virtue, not so much.

in exchange for a clean CR. Of course, it won't pass, but at least everybody could agree that Trump got an up-or-down vote (which is not always something Republicans always allow for Democratic policies/nominees, but I digress) on The Wall and the people have spoken and it's time to move on.

And he won't see federal employees suffer more pain because the Dems are obstructionists--it could work for his base but would it work for his ego?
