The Coast Guard told families to consider having garage sales and acting as "mystery" shoppers to cover lost wages from shutdown. The Coast Guard removed this tipsheet after inquiry from @DanLamothe

Late last month, the Coast Guard announced that it had found enough money to pay its service members one last time through the end of the year. The Trump administration took credit afterward, releasing a statement that said the president and some of his staff members had worked “round the clock” to address the issue.

Actually it was the Master Chief of the Coast Guard and some political wrangling that looked into the matter.

Republicans at all levels have attacked public education so relentlessly that teachers are leaving for other work. GOPers will do the same for Federal workers, so the end result is a more dysfunctional government, which provides them with talking points and excuses to attack it further.

and drive through the Coast Guard housing areas almost every day (it's a small town).

They already do have garage sales.

But how much do they think they're going to be able to sell and get in a town of 10,000 where the biggest employer is the Guard?

And, while there's still a Costco and Wal-Mart in the next town over, we lost our JC Penney two years ago (after being in business for 100 years).
