Dem Congresswoman Katie Hill: I Will Vote to Fund 'Physical Barriers' at Border

by Julio Rosas | Jan 11th, 2019, 12:27 pm

Freshman Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA) told CNN on Friday she will vote for some funding to go towards barriers on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I just want a really straight answer here: will you vote for any money for a steel barrier,” CNN’s Poppy Harlow asked.

“I mean, I will definitely, I don’t know if it’s steel, I will vote for some money for physical barriers,” Hill replied.

She also said how the conversation about a wall is “silly” because the proposals are not just a wall, rather multiple layers of barriers.

“There are so many things we can do in terms of technology, in terms of where we should be investing our money well on border security. It’s a high priority for my district…we understand the need for border security,” Hill said.

There are already sections of the border that have barriers, that need barrier maintenance, or that need barrier improvement. There are also areas of the border that do not require costly barriers, or where barriers would be ineffective. There are alternative technologies, policing and monitoring, and combinations of various methods that can be used to secure the border.

However, there is no crisis and seeking asylum at the border is NOT illegal.

"Undocumented immigrants" are less likely to commit violent crimes than Americans once in the USA. Drugs, weapons, and human trafficking occur at all entrypoints to the US by land, water, and air travel.

There is no crisis at the southern border. We do not need a taxpayer funded 2000 mile barrier.

Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer said the same thing, that border security is a multilayered thing, not just a wall. There may be some places where a wall is among the most effective solutions, other places where it is useless. Trump wants to put up a costly, mostly ineffective wall.
