Could this shutdown last months? Years?

I was sure it would be over by now. People are really starting to hurt.

If Trump won't budge, are their legal means are available to force him to budge?

Impeachment proceedings? What about an injunction? 25th amendment? This cannot be allowed to last much longer.

Can Mueller order Trump to resume government, since this amounts to essentially obstruction of justice (funding of his investigation)?

Can Pelosi declare an emergency and provide funding?

I just can't believe that we are at the mercy of this man.

And it makes me shudder to think it may involve an air liner.

Then declare a perpetual state of emergency and force dictatorship. Much like what Turkey has done.

Will the GOP and SC allow it?

McConnell won't even allow a vote at this point though. Dems have said if a bogus state of emergency is declared they will sue which would go to SC.

It's really up to the GOP.

i'm going with months -- destabilize us too fast, and the instability might impact his profit margins. there's always the next budget cycle for his minions to work us over.

bonus round: how much would Vladimir Putin like us to spend on a southern border wall?

At some point, those people who are not being paid will no longer show up for work. At that point, our entire air transport industry will cease to operate.

I can guarantee that Congress will pass bills to restore payment to those workers, in numbers that are certain to override any veto.

We simply have not reached that point yet. We will, if it is not solved in another way.

Air transport is the obvious first one to go, but there are others in line behind that one.

It's "you" as "one".

I had not actually imagined that the OP was, in fact, the person in charge of whether the government is shut down.

But thank you for your comment. I was starting to miss you.

At some point, things start to fall apart, the economy and stock market start really being affected, maybe flights stop happening, there's a whole list of bad things that are inevitable and the public will nearly unanimously say open up or else, and Republicans will be forced to pass a resolution with a veto-proof majority to open the government.

ONLY when the republicans fear the normals more than the Trump crazies will that happen though, and that probably does take months from now.

I think the GOP will only hold out for so long.

Lots of GOP Senate seats in potentially vulnerable spots. I have to think at some point they see their own electoral doom continuing this madness.

I think they can get a lot in return for the 5 billion for the wall. Possibly 5 billion in funds for social programs, DACA, etc. Its sad but this is serious and the Government will have to open eventually.
