One for the communityPressley gets sworn in a second time at Roxbury ceremony.
Before a standing-room-only crowd in Roxbury Saturday afternoon, US Representative Ayanna Pressley took the oath of office for a second time and then led the gathering in a pledge, advancing a campaign promise to lead in partnership with voters who vaulted her to Washington.
The work of change is collective and cooperative work, and thats why I wanted to come here and have this community swearing-in, Pressley said after the event. I want them to be partners in this work. I wasnt going to be the only one to take an oath which is why we made a pledge together today.
The community pledge, which was distributed to guests on cards, drew on some of Pressleys trademark refrains from the historic campaign that made her the first woman of color from Massachusetts to serve in the US House of Representatives.
There was the nod to Representative Shirley Chisholm with the line, I will take my seat at the table of government and create space for others to take theirs too.

Ayanna is not from my district so she did not get my vote, however she has my support. I love that she took her oath home to those that supported her, the first woman of color from Massachusetts to be elected to Congress. This a remarkable and historic win. Her remarks were moving as she told the community that elected her that this wasn't about her, it was in fact about them.

(83,940 posts)She is the first elected openly gay AG. MA may fall short of progressive with our GOPer Governors....however we win in all other areas.
Ayanna is going to have a very bright future. She took it back to her community and shared her victory with the ones that worked for her and those that voted for her. She made it all about them.
Thanks Effie.

(10,893 posts)more of Pressley being discussed on TV, as well as Lauren Underwood, Deb Haaland, etc. They hardly get any coverage, yet I get the feeling they'll be quite productive members of Congress and healthy for the party.
