If it were possible to hate Trump more than I do - he'd hate Trump more!

Since the country is in the toilet. He’s become an old grump in his old age, like kids get off my lawn kind of guy. Not sure where all the anger came from but got worse after retirement so i think some men feel worse after they quit.

I know he believes like I do, still watches Bill Maher and John Olliver with me, think just frustrated like the rest of us.

And Trump did get more votes from old white guys than Hillary did. Being an old white woman, I know a number of old white guys, and all of them hate Trump.

But stereotypes typically are supported by statistics. That doesn’t justify using them to generalize people.

And, unfortunately, more than 50% of white women (of all ages) voted for the creep.

They've been oppressed so long that freedom looks scary and unfamiliar. So they do the "safe^ thing and defer to the men.

Trump is good for the country because his antics get people to discuss current events. I told him that Hitler got people in Germany and the rest of the world discussing current events, too. Besides that, I don't really see a lot of discussing going on. People on both sides are yelling at each other, and a lot of them are really pissed. I don't know what some of these kids are thinking.

I am pleased to add that they're not ALL like that, fortunately enough!

My husband is one. But he's the most enlightened and liberated man I ever encountered - especially when the first time was in the 1970s...!

The first vote I ever cast was in the 1972 Presidential Primary, when I voted for Shirley Chisholm. I'm chair of my Ward Democratic Committee, and vice chair of my Democratic City Committee. I used to call myself a Kennedy Democrat. Now, I'm a Warren Democrat. Don't prejudge old white men.

The thread title was intended to raise the assumption that the old white guys discussing politics were pro-Trump, and they weren't. QED. The fact that this occurred in the People's Republic of Minneapolis might have been a factor as well.

Scratching my head why people are misconstruing it as something other than what it is. That is, I *hope* they're simply misconstruing the obvious rather than willfully and consciously looking to be oppressed by something... anything. Even something as benign as your sentiment.

I'm glad somebody got it rather than choose to feel oppressed by something that was never intended at all.

They look for a perceived weakness and try to amplify it. Quite common and tiresome.

Why is it folks get upset over ethnic stereo typing or sexism but not for stereo typing old white guys. I don’t think it was meant to be insulting but some took it that way. Don’t minimize someone’s feelings or opinions.

I find it hilarious when other old white guys who I don't even know just walk up to me and start talking like we were both at the Trump rally last night. The soon find out that was a mistake.

Even though I am a *ahem* young looking 62 and female.

If you’re older than 50, and white, they just approach you like you’re one of them.

That's why they have to seek out total strangers to talk politics to. There's far more of us than them. I never walk up to total strangers and start talking politics. I already have plenty of friends and family who think like I do.

Freaked me out. It's true, but I don't think of myself as old except when I saw my age
printed on that band. It was just so strange. My husband had the same experience when he

I think the new "old" is 85 - at least for me.

Damn, am I really that old? So now "old" is any age that's at least 10-15 years older than mine.

There's an element of defensiveness, I'm sure. It's a fact that most voters over 45 cast ballots for Trump. It's a fact that most men voted for him. It's a fact that most white voters did. It's a fact that most Christians did.

Pointing out these facts doesn't imply in the slightest that all the members of those various groups voted for Trump, but certain people will insist upon taking it that way.

This Old White Guy thinks Individual One is an awful human being. Most Old White Guys I know feel likewise. However most Old White Guys I know play the guitar, so my sample might be skewed.

And musician in general. With a few awful exceptions like Ted nugent they are interested in people and enjoy diversity. Plus, they make music. I think music is one of the best things we humans do.

despite the stereotype of old white guys being Trump supporters (and statistically, any random old white guy was more likely to have voted for Trump than for Clinton), they aren't, necessarily. I am trying to point out that the stereotype isn't always the reality and that it's nice to see that borne out in real life. Even on DU there has been a lot of old-white-guy bashing (e.g., certain members of Congress and even Joe Biden) and I am actually standing up for old white guys. So please don't jump all over my ass and assume facts not in evidence.

No one likes to be lumped into a class of Trump voters.

Hispanics voted for tRump in 2016! Can some one explain why, when he wants to build a wall on Mexico border?

I lived in south Florida for years.

Every Cuban I knew was a Republican.

We could have had a woman leading us!

I hope that answers your question, not just about Hispanic people but also about lots of other people who also voted for Trump. I knew a Jewish woman who voted for Trump. Sexism runs deep, and not just in men.

It's a fact that most old people, most white people, and most men voted for Trump. Those old white men who didn't vote for him are the minority of old white men. The OP wrote about a couple of members of that minority of old white men.

It isn't a fact that most women are weak, emotional, etc. You made a bad analogy.

The OP illustrates that not all old white men are evil, racist, misogynist, etc.

(I will be 73 this year). Among other things, I was at a huge March on Washington to protest Vietnam during the Nixon era. I remember they had buses parked end to end all around the White House, and there were snipers stationed on rooftops. Nixon chose to be out of town for that.

Don't assume that just because we look like some Trump people, then we must be Trump people.
