from the NYT opinion pages:
Consider her record as San Franciscos district attorney from 2004 to 2011. Ms. Harris was criticized in 2010 for withholding information about a police laboratory technician who had been accused of intentionally sabotaging her work and stealing drugs from the lab. After a memo surfaced showing that Ms. Harriss deputies knew about the technicians wrongdoing and recent conviction, but failed to alert defense lawyers, a judge condemned Ms. Harriss indifference to the systemic violation of the defendants constitutional rights.
(snip)
Ms. Harris also championed state legislation under which parents whose children were found to be habitually truant in elementary school could be prosecuted, despite concerns that it would disproportionately affect low-income people of color.
(snip)
And then theres Kevin Cooper, the death row inmate whose trial was infected by racism and corruption. He sought advanced DNA testing to prove his innocence, but Ms. Harris opposed it. (After The New York Timess exposé of the case went viral, she reversed her position.)

(10,844 posts)Harris isn't a progressive lawyer and Warren and Gillibrand are decidedly not likable. Oh, and Beto O'Rourke 'skipped' town because he's not well versed on . . . anything.
A roaring start!

(9,696 posts)I'm interested to see if her positions have "evolved" especially regarding criminal justice.
She did to after the banks after the 2008 debacle, with success. There is a lot to like about her, and other things remain to be seen.
That's what primarys are for.

(7,509 posts)now that's she's not in a position to prosecute low level offenders

She ranks as our most progressive Senator. Thats a pretty high bar for everyone else.

A word to the wise, most people respect prosecutors and wont respond well anything that appears to be one-sided cherrypicking op-Eds.

(3,259 posts)Looking forward to seeing who all jumps in and how they perform. Maybe Harris needs to go spend a little time with Jim Webb. I have a feeling now she is on the outside that she will propose a pretty progressive agenda in this area.
The opposition is out for Harris and I question their motives. The not good enough crowd can go pound sand. Lets get it on!

(33,643 posts)Is actually not going to be detrimental to her chances in the General, should she win the primary ... and she'll have plenty of time to prove her progressive bona-fides to us primary voters in the meantime, and I'm sure has many other progressive laurels already in the bag.
Generally-speaking, when Dems win POTUS, it's because they appear moderate and have broad appeal.
'A tough-nose prosecutor' is a nice counter-balance to 'ZOMG SF LIBERAL!1!!' for the moderates/indy types that you need to win POTUS.
Just sayin'
