My cousin, whom I love, regardless of the fact that she voted for trump, stated today that she "blames the media" for giving us trump. "They never vetted him properly," I said (always seeking a position of agreement). She is 82 years old and a life long repub but with a heart of gold, always helping those in need, the sick and lonely. When repubs lose her (and her 5 sons and families) then they are about to learn how screwed they are. This shutdown is affecting her directly because she owns rental properties and has many Coast Guard tenants that can't pay rent. trump is so over ... BTW I don't believe polls that say trump has 39% SUPPORT. From where I live, I see his support crashing.

(28,151 posts)Lots of stories right now of lifelong righties being touched personally and now having change of heart. Color me unimpressed.
Yeah, it's good to see Trump taking the hit but these folks are unchanged ("heart of cold" "salt of the earth" folks that suck).

(3,741 posts)The truth about trump is hitting hard that he doesn't care about Americans. The spot lights are turned on trump. Have a heart for some trumppers ... hard to explain but some folks don't want to see the bad in anyone. As they jump ship we will welcome their change of mind.

(6,558 posts)Politics should never split families. Unfortunately tRump and Fox have brainwashed those who are susceptible. I have tried to navigate my tRump loving family members, to no avail. Unless I joined them in worshiping him, they want nothing to do with me. Congratulations for being able to keep your family in tact!

(32,805 posts)The GOP selected Cheeto as their candidate, so they're the ones who FAILED to vet him thoroughly. Or maybe they did, and maybe they already knew all the horrible stuff about him, and maybe they ran him anyway. Which is worse?

President. That information was readily available if you read a newspaper or listened to news that wasnt Fox. She just voted knee jerk because he had a R by his name.
But Im glad she finally realized she made a mistake.

(6,558 posts)I've been aware of tRump's shenanigans since the early '70s. It was front and center for both him and his dad. It is beyond my comprehension how he got the nomination for the Republican party! Lots of gullible and stupid people, I guess.

(4,742 posts)69%! That is not good of his own base. 91% of Dems wouldn't vote for him and 62% of independents wouldn't vote for him. That will be a VERY tough hill to climb.

(7,968 posts)the media did their very best to give adequate warning. People who either failed to heed it or failed to listen should be held accountable for handing us this catastrophe.

(38,958 posts)I disliked Trump for decades having seen him for what he is a con man, but during the election cycle I found the media, particularly Cable media hanging on every word he blatherd. He played them like a fiddle and I believe them complicit in his election.

(54,770 posts)as a greedy, racist, lying, fool. But people voted for him anyway.
If every news outlet had started off calling trump a worthless POS on every broadcast, it wouldnt have changed trumps support.

(3,741 posts)and Fox made this circus of BS, seem normal. Meantime, trump and Russians played folks on social media. Grand Slam! My cousin watches Fox and reads Detroit News. That's it. So how much truth did she get? Now she is questioning her information stream, a good thing. Although she didn't want to hear anything from me after trump was elected because she believes in supporting the POTUS. This is logical based on her age and the fact that she dosen't go online and read investigative journalism. Her situation is the plight of most of trump supporters, so the challenge is how to get the truth out when trump so clearly is a liar and so is Fox.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)in this country are ignorant white wingers.
I don't think you can persuade people who are happy being trumpies or GOPers. The media does their job by showing what they are. No one needed to read investigative journalists to see what trump is. All they gotta do is look at him and his supporters on rallies.
Miigwech
(3,741 posts)but I know average folks never got the truth until it was too late ... also blame Cruz, Bush, Rubio, Romney, Et al, the slobbering gop that supported trump, in the end
