If he gets the office, doesn't he get to play kingmaker? Because we KNOW he is waist deep in Russian shit.
He was picked by Manafort.
Don't we need to get rid of him first?

(11,578 posts)Pence is up to his eyeballs in the Russia scandal. Even with his obvious efforts to fly under the radar, its doubtful hell escape Muellers notice.

(3,344 posts)Remember, this is after an impeachment, so the whole administration has been weakened. And Trump would STILL be out there mouthing off.
Pence would be weak and easily beatable. We also now have the House to stop any crazy bills.

(12,344 posts)Trump is a whirling vortex of corruption, sucking in everyone and everything. Pence is just an ordinary opportunist. I don't think being picked by Manafort means he's corrupt. He has a reputation for being squeaky clean but dumb. He might just be a useful idiot. Maybe Manafort thought Christie was too smart to have around.

(42,641 posts)Pence is Trump's Ford. But, in an interesting contrast, Nixon and Ford were both smarter than Trump and Pence.

(115,878 posts)If Trump is impeached, Pence will still carry his stench. Gerald Ford was appointed to replace stinky, corrupt Spiro Agnew in October of 1973 and confirmed as VP in December. Nixon resigned in August of that year, and Ford became president. Unlike Pence, Ford never had any involvement in the scandals and crimes that took down his predecessor, while it's at least possible, if not probable, that Pence at least knew what was going on with Russia even if he did not directly participate in Trump's cover-up. After all, Manafort recommended him for the VP position and he managed the transition. If he becomes president he probably wouldn't win re-election in 2020 because of the lingering Trump taint and because he has all the charisma of a wet dishrag. Note also that Ford lost the 1976 election because he pardoned Nixon.
Also, if Pence goes away first, Trump gets to appoint another VP. While the appointee has to be confirmed by both houses of Congress, there's no guarantee that Trump won't try to appoint someone as ideologically nasty as Pence.

(14,249 posts)And he should DEFINITELY not be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office.
Anyone insisting that he can't be "THAT" bad need only think back a couple of years and remember that's exactly what people said about Trump.
Do not underestimate ANY of these people!

(4,484 posts)I would still say Pence is better than Trump.
Here's why:
Pence's policies may be worse, but I genuinely fear an accidental nuclear holocaust under Trump. Obviously, an accidental nuclear holocaust is a worse case scenario, but it is still a scenario that ends the world.
I feel Mike Pence is less likely to accidentally end the world. I can't believe the bar for President is now "someone unlikely to erase intelligent life" but that's what Trump had brought it to.
If Pence does get in, he will not be reelected and anyone he anointed while not be taken seriously. He'd be gone in two years and would not leave a nuclear winter in his wake.
Therefore, Pence > Trump, despite having worse policies and the know how to implement them.

(11,686 posts)He is not stupid like trump. His hard core fanatical fundamentalist beliefs scare me the most. I see anyone of any other belief than his ( religious or not ) being harshly persecuted. I fear that with trump also but pence scares me more than trump on the religious issues.
