Advisers to former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz are looking at him running as an independent

Advisers to former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz have been exploring the possibility of launching an independent bid for the White House in 2020, according to two people who have been informed of the discussions.

The entry of a high-profile billionaire Democrat outside the traditional party structure would add an unpredictable dynamic to the increasingly sprawling campaign to deny President Trump a second term.

Trump’s opponents, including many Democratic strategists, have expressed concerns that a serious three-way race in November would divide the Democratic vote in a way that helps Trump win reelection, either directly by denying Democrats states they would otherwise have won or by shifting the ultimate decision to the U.S. House.

Schultz, who has a net worth of about $3.3 billion and describes himself as a “lifelong Democrat,” has not said publicly whether he will mount a presidential campaign and has kept open the option of running as a Democrat. He will begin a national book tour Jan. 28 for a memoir that describes his personal journey “to reimagine the promise of America.”

Why would this lifelong Democrat try to fuck us over? Hopefully, he won't do this.

At least Bernie Sanders, though a long-time independent, had the sense to run as a Democrat and back Hillary when she won the primary so as not to cannibalize votes in the general election.

We do NOT need another Ralph Nader throwing the election to Russia-loyalists running the GOP.

After he bought the Sonics, grew tired of playing with his toy, and couldn’t get the legislature to fund a second complete teardown and rebuild of KeyArena (essentially a brand new stadium for the second time in a ten year period), he rebuffed an offer by Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer to buy the team and, instead, sold it without warning to an Oklahoma consortium, who promptly moved Seattle’s oldest and well-supported major league franchise to OKC. Yes, Howie’s a loyal guy, all right!

about Howie screwing over the people of the city who built his business. As a college student, I would walk by the front door of the company that would become a worldwide behemoth, and not realize what was in stake for the future.

Howie is an egotistical idiot who thinks that commercial success means that he is politically acceptable.

….to be snookered by just any ol (or EVERY ol) shiny object...and there are a LOT of them right now. Stay focused, stay centered and on for gawds sake, stay on course. We are united to defeat trump, right now, and idealism can come when we are comfortably in power. We need seasoned warriors right now. They may not be pure, but we need the best attack dogs in the pack.

by overcharging for something that used to cost less than a buck. I've had my fill of inexperienced billionaires running for office. I'll take someone who knows Washington and how to really get things accomplished rather than a pampered egomaniac who thinks that their money will give them the power to change everything in Washington.

...more than the majority understands itself. And folks wonder why a low percentage even votes, but maybe that’s the reason.

Really- an independent? The 2-3% he would pick up is not worth the expense of his time & capital. If he wanted folks to love and respect him more, he should bump the minimum pay in the Amazon distribution centers to at least $15.00. That would cost far less, and would certainly improve his image.

Then he should run in the primary where his ideas can enter into the public debate directly. If he wins the Democratic Nomination, I will vote for him. If he runs as an Independent, he's working to re-elect Trump and I will do everything I can to diminish his involvement for he will be my political enemy.
