He'll end the shutdown and declare a national emergency. The courts will tie it up and he'll be clear of it. Ultimately Trump doesn't care about a wall. If he did he would have gotten it done his first two years. He just wants his base rabid and ready, and this will keep him from losing face. Trump's approval is in free fall and this shutdown is damaging him. He knows he can't let it go on for much longer. He also knows by now that the Dems aren't going to budge, something he didn't believe at first. He honestly thought he could throw his weight around and they would cave.

Basically he's got three options, and a national emergency is the one that will end the shutdown the soonest and save him face. The other two are carry the shutdown for two more years, which would be disastrous for him, the Republicans, and the country, or have enough Republicans defect and override him. Neither of those two possibilities are anywhere near as appealing to him as the national emergency one, which would save him the most face.

Which is why he will go with the national emergency.
