A Senator would bring up the bill from the floor, then something would have to allow that to happen. The Senate would vote for it, then have the votes to override a veto. Something outrageous might allow that to happen.

make it happen or enough Rs would likely revolt and remove him from his leadership roll and go there without him.

The House Judiciary Committee has to vote on articles of impeachment, then refer them to the full House for a vote, and then the Senate has to conduct a trial. The entire process for the Clinton impeachment and trial took about two months, and the charges were obviously a whole lot less complicated than Trump's crimes.

wouldn't the accused be allowed to present a defense? There would be no way they wouldn't drag that out as long as possible.

...and that's probably a good thing, but I don't see that the Constitution mandates it.

For one thing, Mike Pence is the President of the Senate, and would, no doubt, step in to run the proceedings. In the second case, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over an impeachment trial for the President.

I doubt anything could get rushed through in such circumstances, frankly.
