Liberal. I suggest that all Progressives push love and good works. This does not need to be a religious thing. Although, just about every religion worth noting has a "treat others the way you want to be treated" clause. What we are opposing is best characterized, imo, as hateful and selfish (Republicans to a very great degree exhibit those two things). The only way to completely destroy such evil is with a counterbalance of Good.
Saying this I would urge all who would wear the Progressive/Liberal mantle do away with hateful comments toward the opposition (Republican/Trump voter/ etc.) and lead with love (care) and good works (Progressive programs). Will we win out immediately. No. Will we be spat upon? Absolutely. In the end, however, we can stand tall and realize that we are involved in a great thing that has only rarely been seen on this earth in any size.
Fight evil with good and love even the Enemy. A Democratic President must strive to be President for all. Trump is doing just the opposite and his base base just wants him to hurt others. Many of them don't seem to care if they suffer as long as the "enemy" suffers more. Sad!

(22,367 posts)* Asking oppressed people to meet their oppressors with love is ignorant and privileged.
* Litmus tests rarely work.
* There is no practical way to implement this particular litmus test.

(535 posts)How about things such as a belief in equal rights, social justice, a woman's reproductive rights, addressing climate change, guaranteed access to voting (and having that vote be counted) to name just a few things.
I am willing to actually fight for those who have less of a voice or who are weaker, or disenfranchised, aren't you?

(3,750 posts)love of the other, even those who claim to be my enemies. We can fight for those things without being hateful to those on the other "side". Progressive Liberals should, imo, be driven by our desire to help those who need help. That can be done in all of those ways and many more....like making good jobs available with good pay, etc. To claim as a Liberal to want to hurt those that I believe "need a hurtin'" is poor policy to me.

(535 posts)But then again I'm not a christian, I don't turn the other cheek and I don't love those who consider me to be their enemy.

(3,750 posts)progressive and liberal in your opinion? Why would someone not progressive and/or liberal be a Democrat?

(13,783 posts)If the question of a person's inclusion in "progressive liberal" I would want to know why that person thought they were one. I expect our litmus test would be stretched to the bursting point. And good riddance.
