Everybody knows that walls work, Trump said. You look at different places they put up a wall, no problem. You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places. They go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately.
One problem with Trumps claim: San Antonio, in Texas, is some 150 miles from the border with Mexico. It does not have a border wall.
To make matters more interesting, San Antonios congressman is Republican Will Hurd, who has repeatedly dismissed Trumps wall as pointless.
In a recent interview, Hurd called the presidents border crisis a myth and said a border wall is the most expensive and least effective way to do border security.

(23,354 posts)Anyone, and I mean anyone, can just walk down to the river, cross over. If that's not enough, there are gondolas on the river that will take you where you want to go. Many gondolas, and not one Coast Guard River Patrol Boat.
Worse, there are restaurants and bars on both sides of the river, lulling us into a state of satisfaction and happiness. Don't be fooled!

(22,144 posts)I worked in San Antonio and there is nothing even remotely like a wall there...something is wrong, Stephen Miller the bigot must be looking at the maps wrong again, or he is against anyone in the south, 150 miles from the entire southern border of the United States because they may be a former immigrant, who is now a nationalized citizen!
What's next, Miller, you ignorant bigot? The wall along the Mason Dixon line? Is Miller going to say that everyone south of this line is supposedly of Mexican heritage and thus, wants to deport all of them? Point is, Miller is going to find another victim, and when that doesn't work, he'll find another, etc.
Perhaps if you're going to say anything, you might first look at a map and study it, but I know that this would be too much work for you and would interfere with your duties in writing the rump manifesto on how to be a bigot and get elected president! E.g., first step, get in bed w/ Russians, second step, get lots of Russian money, third step, ...

(6,535 posts)Of course I realize the actual wall, or anything else anybody agrees to, etc., isn't the actual point...much like the comment with respect to the separation of families, where "the cruelty is the point," in this case the chaos is the point.
Maybe somehow all of this will help the apathetic non-voters of the nation wake up; I fear it's too late at this point to actually save the country as we used to know it, but maybe we can pick up the pieces and rebuild something more progressive, if enough people keep caring.

(31,011 posts)The Gulf of Mexico is closer to San Antonio than the border if memory serves.
Or maybe it's the wall of Alamo.
Maybe he thought the folks guarding Ft. Sam Houston were on a border.
Shit, I give up.
