WASHINGTON Videos of Kentucky high school students standing in front of Native American marchers and seemingly mocking one Native American drummer during the Indigenous Peoples March in Washington yesterday have gone viral.
Multiple videos posted on social media show Covington Catholic students standing in front of a group of marchers, yelling and jumping as marchers begin to play music. One person in a "Make America Great Again" hat stands within inches of the face of a marcher who is drumming, staring and smiling at him for the entirety of the video.
Yes, indeed, give those boys a good Catholic upbringing. Teach them well. Teach them the bigotry they need to be good Trumpsters.
Feh!

(146,318 posts)Such fine examples of a Catholic High School education in Kentucky. Fine, upstanding future US Citizens.
Mocking Native Americans. How quaint.

(146,318 posts)into the MAGA world is pretty much complete. I admire the elder's patience in the face of such insolence and bigotry. I could not maintain that in those circumstances, although I am about the same age as that Marine Veteran drummer.
My only hope is that there will be enough shame to go around and help those boys understand just how horribly they behaved.

(85,999 posts)...I've been the subject, recipient of similar behavior, albeit in more remote settings.
In a memorable case, I chose a rather dramatic act of retribution which, fortunately, led to an immediate friendship. I regretted retaliating, which I did without notice or warning, but I've come to value the act of forgiveness which allowed room for understanding and commonality.
I've learned to always look for and encourage rapprochement. In this case, I believe the school, and a great segment of society that these fellows encounter in the future won't accommodate their bigoted bravado as swimmingly as they encouraged each other in their little gang.
Most of them are going to want to disassociate themselves from their actions, maybe denial, at first, then hopefully, understanding. I think we should always keep ourselves open to that possibility, especially with youth.

Either way, these little shits need a kick in the butt and a lesson on being decent human beings.

(146,318 posts)and mocked a Native American Marine Veteran who served in Vietnam. How proud Kentuckians must be of their children. There's a whole crowd of them, all mocking the real Americans.

(25,586 posts)Does anybody really doubt that a group of Catholic school boys from Kentucky are being raised by anybody other than far-right bigots?

(146,318 posts)I'm not sure the place has much to do with it. I think it's more a sense of entitlement and superiority that is being taught in those schools. All in the name of Christ. Gandhi had it right about Christians, I think. So many are so unlike the fictional character they claim to follow.
Teach your children well...They have to be carefully taught.

(22,144 posts)all they are doing is highlighting how stupid their actions are. Right in front of all of us. I think they'll be finding out the ramifications of their actions before too long, as they should, being young men and women, who should know better. Thanks MM for posting this sad episode of truly exceptional Americanism (sarcasm).

(146,318 posts)are being educated in a Roman Catholic school. Apparently what is being taught there has little to do with decent human values. What an awful example they are of parochial school education!
It is truly a shameful performance all around. The adults traveling with that group appear to have no control over the students. Either that, or they encourage such disrespect. I suspect the latter.

(22,144 posts)or families have ever acted this way. I guess they feel entitled to trod over everybody and their feelings/beliefs. Pathetic. I'd prefer to remember the good kids and parents I know from all of the Cath. schools located around me (and who are my neighbors too in a lot of cases). They never acted this way. Take care.

(63,221 posts)I hope these videos go viral and when these kids apply to colleges their sickening behavior follows them and becomes known to the admissions department. They need to learn that their are consequences for their actions and that what they are doing is dead wrong.

(146,318 posts)of people, who will learn just what is being taught those boys at their Catholic Boy's High School. Welcome to the United States of America, folks. This is who we are becoming. This is the next generation, at least from that part of the country.
Shameful!

(146,318 posts)Similar boys are coming out of schools all across America. All too often, the schools they attend pretend to teach Christian values to such students. In reality, they are teaching bigotry, insolence and ugliness, instead.
Religious teachings do not ensure good behavior, as we see again and again. In fact, they can lead to this sort of stupidity, bigotry, and ignorance. It's a damned shame.
Sadly, the school will continue to raise up boys to become yet another group of MAGATS. Feh!

(15,043 posts)Most of my friends and neighbors were Catholic and I was treated as a second class citizen. They didn't beat me up and I was accepted by them as a "friend" who was a member of "the other." They weren't unkind to me. But it was always understood that Billy would marry Mary, Jimmy would marry Coleen, and so on. I wasn't a full person in their eyes. And I didn't exist in their imaginings of the future.
It was a different era. The bigotry was less overt and less confrontational. So what's changed? Donald Trump has made a difference. He's made it okay to get in people's faces. He's made rudeness acceptable. He's made aggressiveness a symbol of manhood. He's made out-in-the-open hatred an act of heroism.
The pig in the White House is destroying America. These kids in that Catholic school are a symptom. Trump, and much of the Republican Party, are the disease.
