How does one see through steel?

OMG, this is too much. What a loser! To quote Randy Rainbow, what's next? A couple of folding chairs and a bike lock?

Does everyone realize what a stupid, ineffective, cost-prohibitive idea this is? It has nothing to do with not wanting stronger border security and everything to do with the fact that this is the most expensive and least effective way to achieve that goal.
