The Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington, along with the school, acknowledged the situation Saturday afternoon, saying the matter is being investigated.
Laura Keener, of the diocese, released the following statement:
"We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Churchs teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.
"The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion. We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our most sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and all those who support the pro-life movement."

(50,957 posts)something is deeply wrong with what you are teaching. That wasn't one asshole kid. That was a mob. With parents and chaperones and teachers. That was ALL of them. Maybe the "witness of the March for Life" is where you should start. Get out of places that don't concern you, and maybe use your efforts for ACTUAL Christian activities. Like, maybe, march for the children being incarcerated and killed by the man YOU put in the white house.
Spare us all, Laura. You're a bunch of hypocrites. This kid is just a symptom of what is wrong with you.

It reminds me of what was reported about the school Brett Kavanaugh went to, it looked like that school was doing something wrong too.

(82,849 posts)See, it's just a coincidence that all these lone wolf bigots just happened to choose to attend the same private school. The administration is just as flabbergasted as anyone!

(33,379 posts)Maybe this would not have happened if they weren't convinced it is their duty to forcibly impose their radical, narrow beliefs on everyone else. Tolerance of diversity does not appear to be among their teachings.

(3,741 posts)What the church has done to Native Americans, has been documented. What they have done to children, has been documented. They have no moral authority here. Call the Pope to respond ... he gets it (maybe). My Grandfather was sent to a Native American School.

(63,221 posts)They should not be let off the hook because they are kids. They are old enough to know what they have done is wrong.

(1,178 posts)My guess is they want people to think they're going to come down hard on the students, but I'm sure we'll be told they can't publicly comment on what actions were taken, which in the grand scheme of things, means they did nothing.
