It is almost two hours long but worth watching. Another DUer posted it here:

Caution: Racist, homophobic, hateful language present throughout (including n-word, gay slurs)

(90,336 posts)... a situation doesn't escalate and to teach them how to respectfully approach a situation where if they thought they were being harassed they come on out on top.
Right now even with the elongated video the response to Phillips makes them look like little jerks where dialogue would've served everyone better.

(4,835 posts)I know there are marches and demonstrations in DC all the time - but since this was to be a bigger day because of the Womens marches - this becomes a special target.
Im reminded of some of the groups and activities the Russians were able to gin up in the 2016 election.

(4,835 posts)I mean - who came up with the idea to go there?
How did they get the idea?

(58,724 posts)They have a march around this time every year - have been doing so since 1974.

Remember this?

This is the kind of activity Im suggesting might have brought certain groups to DC this day.

(51,308 posts)I think I read this wasnt their first trip to the March.

(219 posts)that they have been taking students to the march since 2008. It is such an annual event that there is a specific sub heading for it on their web site.
Also on the page, there is a picture of several of the boys from last year's march wearing MAGA hats.

(4,835 posts)I would not dismiss this...I could see the local schools participating - but from Kentucky?!
Were there a lot of Catholic Groups that traveled hundreds of miles to go to the march?

(62,444 posts)This march is an annual event which is heavily promoted nationally among Catholics and Protestant anti-choicers near and far.

(CNN) Crowds of people packed the National Mall on Friday for the March for Life, an annual march against abortion.
Citizens from all corners of the United States braved the frigid weather, chanted anti-abortion slogans, waved flags and hoisted signs as activists and lawmakers argued against the practice of abortion.
Rolling something like that into a field trip to DC is not at all an unusual thing for a Catholic school to do. There were likely more schools from Covington there, since one of the adults with them is the superintendant of schools for the diocese.
Expecting some sort of accounting of every group there is a ridiculous demand, since its not as if there is anyone keeping a census of groups that show up.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2019/01/19/video-shows-apparent-incident-indigenous-peoples-march/2623820002/
The school and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington issued a joint statement Saturday afternoon after millions viewed videos of the imbroglio and hundreds if not thousands denounced the private, all-boys school. The school has traditionally sent students to D.C. for the annual March for Life.

(4,835 posts)So all these people were in DC that weekend - what could go wrong...???
Why do they schedule the Womens March so proximate to the MFL?
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)The March for Life has been going on for decades, and approximates the anniversary of Roe v Wade.
The Womens March has been going on for three years and was originally to coincide with the inauguration of Trump.
So, yes, these two things happen at the same time of year.
On any given weekend, though, there can be all sorts of rallies, protests, and what-have-you going on in DC.

(42,701 posts)I was stuck in traffic for over an hour before giving up when I couldn't get to my office due to road closures. I was stuck behind or saw parked along the road buses with license plates or company logos from all over the country. The most distant of them came from Colorado, which is probably 3x the distance to DC as the distance between DC and Covington KY. And there were others from North Carolina, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, etc.
So yes, there were many Catholic groups that travelled hundreds of miles to attend the march. There are every year.

(63,221 posts)know what sex and procreation is all about. Do you think Catholic schools teach their students anything about sex or safe sex? I highly doubt it. This is so fucked up.

(6,916 posts)Most of the March for Life is indoctrinated school kids getting bused to DC. Without the indoctrinated kids there would barely be any March. Thats why they hold it on a Fri- theyd get fewer schools on Sat, which is when every other March is held.

It's as if they don't know that American Indians have rights to this country long before their relatives step foot on this continent.

(15 posts)As a resident of Covington and grad of CCH 73 I don't need to see the video, I see it everyday. Covington is in a very red congressional district, with a little blue in the cities .The money to send a child to Covington Catholic makes it too expensive for most today. My single parent mother sent two sons to graduate in 71 and 73. The point being these children learn these things at home and is reinforced at school. They are children and this would be a great teaching moment if the school is up to it. At home they will still find trumpers galore

I wrote a long post about all this the other day giving my summary of the long video but was kind of sick to my stomach with everything by the end of the day. I am glad Nathan wants to meet with the kids and have discussions about race and cultural appropriation etc. Want more of that than everyone going to their sides and digging in.

(45,079 posts)The hatred from the two groups was vile and they only want one group to be at fault .

(41,979 posts)A bunch, at least 50, of undersupervised boys were at at fucking March for Life rally.
They wore fucking MAGA hats, so the adults allowed them to fucking politicize themselves. Earlier they had harassed a small group of women or did you miss that?
They got yelled at by a vile, homophobic hate group of about 5 adult black men. They reacted. A couple tore their shirts off and they started chanting. Phillips came up drumming and singing between the two groups, the boys turned on him.
They are creepy little bigots. Deliberate bigots and misogynistic shitheads.
White youth always seem to get a pass around in the media. Its more complicated that it seemed at first but its certainly not complicated .
Autumn
(45,079 posts)a pass. Fuck both homophobic, racist groups. Their so called chaperons were a big part of it, and their fucking church school that breeds and teaches racism and homophobia while tolerating sexual abuse.
