What Does Kirsten Gillibrand Stand For?

January 20, 2019 at 8:43 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Washington Post: “Gillibrand overhauled her political identity during this period, abandoning the conservative positions that made her popular upstate and embracing or even moving further left than the liberal consensus on guns, immigration, Wall Street and same-sex marriage. As the Democratic Party itself moved left, she staked out positions popular with the party’s swelling base of liberals, a posture most evident when she called for abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. She has voted against President Trump’s agenda more than any other senator.”

“Gillibrand’s evolution seemed to reach its apex last week when she introduced herself as a candidate for president and a fighter for liberal values. But her shift in views from a decade ago is already raising questions among Democrats and provoking attacks from Republicans eager to define her as a flip-flopper.”

“Experts who have followed Gillibrand’s rise said the impression that she has hair-trigger judgment and an overriding instinct to capitalize on the political moment could prove more problematic than any one shift on policy.”

Warren even has a conservative past though I believe she is in the right place now.

I keep going back to the realization that this Putin plan has been in the works for decades. I am suspicious of anyone who 'evolved'. Street smarts are telling me to be very cautious.

And before anyone says I'm not supporting democrats that is not true. I most certainly do. I also judge each one on what I know about them and keep my eyes wide open. Part of supporting democrats is making sure we hold them accountable.

This is what I dislike about her. I can't trust that her decisions will be thoughtful and wise. I can't be certain that the things she says and does will be in the best interests of her constituents and in the best interests of our nation.

So I think it's fair to say that she stands for stopping Trump and his agenda.

Not because of her own beliefs, but for political expediency. That seems to be her m.o. - no consistency, no loyalty, no searching for deeper truths.

As always, if she is the general candidate (she won't be) for Dems I'll vote for her. In the primaries, there are others so much better than her who I'd love to vote for.

IF she goes through major epiphany-inducing life experiences that clarify and deepen her wisdom and values. That make her understand the superiority of lawyers who refuse to accept tobacco companies as clients, for example. I mean that seriously. If I were her, I’d be regretting some things I did when I was young, and I’d be asking myself why do others seem to make wiser decisions from the outset.

Eventually I will forgive her for the Al Franken episode and would probably happily support her for President in 2032.

People do learn and change. I have faith in LIFE teaching people the things they need to learn, if they will be humble and patient enough to learn them.

I suspect that the U.S. will suffer a great deal in the next fourteen years, so she will have plenty of opportunities to get just a little wiser.

(*positively I will vote for her in ANY general election if she’s the Democratic nominee.)

The state of New York seems to like her. I'm glad for them and hope they can keep her for a very long time.
