He might very well have saved the black boys that the white boys were going after.He could see that the situation could easily get out of hand and the white boys might have torn the black boys to pieces. He stepped in which was very brave.

I know he made the comment of where were the chaperones. I didn't catch his response when Joy asked him if some of the boys from the Catholic School should be expelled. I would say, after listening to him give the full story, some of those boys should be expelled.

The Catholic school kids kept leaving the area and returning with more and more of their classmates surrounding the black kids in ever growing numbers. Phillips sized up the situation and decided to implore god with prayer to quell the violence that he felt was imminent.

He and his group were diverting the negativity of the school boys. Bless them.
