(33,342 posts)It's hard to see if the skies are clear while sitting on a nice, warm couch, watching football and listening to the big dog snore.

(33,342 posts)Solid, low clouds. Only way I can see it is online.
I had forgotten, so thanks for reminding!

(86,581 posts)bit of a thin spot approaching, it could be my chance to actually see it.
But even if I don't, doesn't change the power of the situation. I'll still be meditating through part of it.

(83,751 posts)For the last two days we have had snow then a day of freezing rain.
It is 6 degrees now and by morning it will be -15 with the wind chill. I will go out and see it.
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,342 posts)I can see the moon through several windows!
Turning red here; very high in the sky.
llmart
(15,536 posts)Neat being able to watch it through my doorwall from inside on this 0 degree night.
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,342 posts)Saw it go full blood, then begin to lighten. Very nearly at zenith in the sky here.
Watched it using a mirror at a window so I wouldn't have to go out in the cold.
llmart
(15,536 posts)I had to lay down on my dining room floor to see it when it got to full eclipse, but I did get to see it go reddish and then start to lighten.
It's now -2 degree.

Life is super super good.
Just got over a cold, and for anyone who remembers a previous story, this evening was something of a miracle.
Kid got some great shots of the red moon.

The pics I took look like they're from an alien telescope in a different galaxy. Grainy with scattered beams.

(36,745 posts)But really effin cold...about 3 deg F.
Ill pop out and watch it here and there.
This will be the 3rd one I have watched...2008, 2015 and now 2019.
Im more focused on the November 11th Transit of Mercury. That one will be the last until 2032.
malaise
(268,969 posts)Damn!
Thanks for the info on Mercury in November.
While I lived in the mountains, I would go out and take pictures at -10F! And I didn't even zip up my coat. I only went in when the camera got too cold!
The clarity at those temps is amazing but you have to be able to stick the camera in your armpit inside your coat between shots.
malaise
(268,969 posts)Once it reaches fifty, I avoid my Miami sister's backyard. Clarity will have to wait.
2naSalit
(86,581 posts)I'm that way with the heat, can't handle outdoor temps higher than +75F. I start to wilt after that, so I live north of the 45th parallel.

(268,969 posts)One year way back when I visited them in October when one of the boys was born. I went to the beach with his sister - she headed for the water in a bikini - I had on a coat. He loves the cold.
roamer65
(36,745 posts)You will need a decent telescope and a good solar filter to see it. Its small...lol.
I viewed it in May 2016. Its an ok substitute for a Venus Transit.
llmart
(15,536 posts)It's a perfect sky for this event. I'm a pretty intrepid person, so I'll go out on my deck to see it. Right now it's 3o.
mahigan
(85 posts)but it is still too cold to stand around. It doesn't start where I am in Canada for another hour+ and the temp is already -15F with a wind chill of -49F. It is warmer than last night which hit -40F but I still don't want to play. Fortunately, I can see most of the lead up to the total eclipse through the window. I still have to go out a couple of times tonight so I can catch a quick look at the whole sky then.

(17,434 posts)Thin high clouds. You can see the moon through them, but it is a little blurred. There is some expectation that the clouds will abate.
The gotcha is the 15 MPH wind with 25 MPH gusts. The wind chill is 15F and predicted to be 5 at the maximum shadow.

I can't deal with the cold either. My Fla Pop's said once you live "down here" you blood get's thin and the cold gets to you....... I think it's an old wife's tale but I don't like the cold!!!!
YMMV, works for me...

(128,909 posts)(just outside of my front door) to look overhead in the 15F air (wishing it was 15C ) to look at it just as the eclipse was starting (~11:41 pm ET) through to its max at ~12:12 am ET, and until about 10 minutes after (going in and out to warm up). We had a few clouds but there were enough breaks to really see it.
At the beginning, it looked almost like an orange "smudge" on the bottom left side of the moon before the whole thing turned completely orange/red.
