Senate Republicans Surrender to Trump on Shutdown

January 21, 2019 at 7:53 am EST By Taegan Goddard

Washington Post: “Under pressure from conservatives to help Trump deliver on a signature campaign promise and unable to persuade him to avert the partial government shutdown, these lawmakers have all but surrendered to the president’s will. Their comments show how the cracks in the 53-member Republican majority that emerged at the outset of the shutdown have not spread beyond a handful of lawmakers.”

“Asked about the pressure from constituents and some of the 800,000 affected federal workers to end the impasse, GOP senators insisted they are facing equal — if not more — insistence to stand behind Trump and his call for $5.7?billion for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, especially from conservative voters.”

So our GOP senators don't want to serve the American people, they only want to serve those who agree with Trump, which, as we all know, is a minority.

I'm sure they've been threatened in some way if they speak out, but by whom and what was the threat?

It's unbelievable that most of them don't seem to care about the workers who aren't getting paid, isn't it?

So no surprise there. The only way Republicans fight ignorance is to bow down to it. Trump wants to set $5 billion on fire, and not one Republican can explain why that's not a good idea. Trump wants to implement some policy goal, but doesn't want to do any of the necessary work to make it happen. He just wants to be handed what he's demanding. No negotiation, no proposal, nothing written down, just shrill, jabbering demands that change every time he talks about it.

You have to work to get things done, and Needy Amin is lazy and shiftless. He just wants government to give him free stuff.

They haven’t hit the point - which will come for some of them - when they recognize they are endangering themselves more by continuing to stand by him.

DO NOT. This COWARDICE cannot be rewarded. They are all neutered and de-ovaried. Why are they even there. Just despicable and yes DEPLORABLE. Truth is the truth.

Calling their behavior and mindset deplorable is not an insult is a description.
