the reason being that it provides a nice contrast and, at the end of the day, the positions that resonate most with the majority of voters - I believe those will be the ones representing the more progressive ideas - will win out. That, by definition, is democracy at its finest, which, with many vigorous debates between the candidates, will guarantee our candidate is elected in the fairest way possible... I strongly believe THAT is what will make the difference in defeating the Nazi-in-Chief currently occupying the White House.
