Trump: 'Why is Nancy Pelosi getting paid when people who are working are not?'

Trump has been seeking to put the blame on Democrats amid polls that show more people blame him for the partial government shutdown, which was triggered by the president's demands for funding for a Mexican border wall.

In response to questions about Trump's remark and whether the Speaker was donating or forgoing her salary, Pelosi's office pointed to a tweet in which she called on Trump to reopen the government.
Her spokesman, Drew Hammill, tweeted in response to Trump that the House has "repeatedly passed bills to re-open government."

In the Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has said none of the bills will be brought up absent an agreement between Trump and Democrats.

No one outside Congress can affect their pay so they can act independently. Same for the other two branches.

Imagine if Trump could suspend the pay of any Congressperson? Of if the Supreme Court could do so?

Did you happen to see this tweet today?

The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the “podium” much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press. I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News!

even if they want to. They can donate it of course but not turn it down.

Why should she do either though? She's not the one keeping our country hostage, Trump and McConnell are.

An expensive unrealistic unneeded WALL or no deal... Wall or nothing. This isn't making an attempt at a real deal, it's extortion and one that can't be given into since it would set a precedent.

Heck, IMO even allowing Trump to force a shutdown over this and McConnell to enable him by refusing to allow bills without his stupid wall should be unacceptable to any real American patriots. This crap only serves Putin well, not America.

The real question is why Mitch McConnell is being paid.

Article 1 Section 6 of the Constitution requires that Congress be paid.
