China 'launches an app that tells you if you are within 500 yards of someone in debt -

and encourages you to report them if they seem capable of paying up'

Chinese authorities have developed an app to tell people if they are nearby someone in debt.

State-run newspaper China Daily reported that officials in the Chinese province of Hebei created the app, named 'map of deadbeat debtors', which can be accessed through social media app WeChat.

The app alerts users with a flash when they are within 500 meters of someone who is in debt - the newspaper claimed.

Can you imagine if this was launched in North America? It would basically point at just about everyone on the street.

i have a brother-in-law who is the classic starving artist.

works as absolutely little as possible, just enough to get by.

no credit, no debt. hardly any assets, either. ancient car and a small lot in the boonies where he built his own small house.
not my lifestyle, but works for him.

meanwhile, i have a house in the wealthiest county in the wealthiest state in the wealthiest nation. so naturally, i'm up to my eyeballs in debt.... too bad i bought riiiight before the housing crisis started....

i would think they would quickly figure it out and leave their smartphone at home.
or maybe get a second phone (or at least a second sim card) for venturing outside the house....
