'I think he's scared': Trump biographer calls Trump caving into Nancy Pelosi 'shocking'

Researcher and writer Michael D’Antonio thinks that President Donald Trump is getting “scared.”

In a conversation with CNN, the Trump biographer listened as host Don Lemon read the president’s tweet caving into Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hold on the State of the Union.

“Have you ever heard this president write something like that?” Lemon asked. “It seems like a normal presidency.”

“It’s shocking,” D’Antonio said. “This sounds like something that maybe Ivanka wrote or Jared Kushner. It really doesn’t sound like Donald Trump’s language. This is a fellow who has troubles stringing three words together in the right order.”

D’Antonio noted it’s also respectful, which isn’t exactly Trump’s style. Lemon asked what it meant his guest had a shocking assessment.

“I think he’s scared. He’s afraid,” the biographer continued. “He’s politically afraid the Senate Republicans are probably telling him this is a disaster. He sees that people are suffering and are fed up with maybe he’s going to act presidential because he’s being forced to act presidential.”

the US media got it wrong again. I remember Van Jones saying it.

Yes, to his phone being hijacked.

To him they are like tv ratings.

Ergo, he knew if he continued somebody would cancel him so he changed his act. Aah! The magic of make believe!

He is finally having his feet held to the fire and he can't stand the pain. He won't endure. Pelosi will outwit him and outlast him. He doesn't have the temperament for this kind of political engagement.

Trump hasn't exactly covered himself in glory, has he? It's at this point in a negotiation that Trump typically goes looking for another vendor/sucker/rube to make a deal with, but in this case, he can't turn to another House of Representatives or another Speaker of the House to get his way.

He's going to have to cave, and when he does, I hope the media hound him with questions about why he couldn't have concluded the exact same deal weeks earlier, and spared so many people such pain.

He only watches Fox Noise, and I doubt he sees any negative consequences of his actions being prominently displayed on there.

Poll numbers are another consideration entirely. With his national support drifting down to about one third, even though the Senate, being in essence a national gerrymander, won't reflect that yet, someone will be waving a warning flag in the White House at some point. "Hey, Jared, tell me again, HOW many Senators do they need to convict and remove me from office if the House impeaches me?"

In keeping with his behavior to date, I think he has a stunt up his sleeve. His Roy Cohn-inspired philosophy would nearly dictate trying to spring something on his opponent(s). He's the kind of guy who thinks it's better to go down swinging.

that Speaker Pelosi has way more power than dis-inviting him from the SOU presentation.

That is why they are terrified.

And Pelosi is not afraid to wield it. That power rightfully belongs to her.
