So how long before Trump walks back his SOTU concession?

He’s going to spend the rest of the night taking flak from people like Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham, and reading tweets about how he got owned by Nancy Pelosi, and he’s going to stew on it.

How long before he unleashes a tweetstorm claiming that he never said he would wait until after the shutdown, in fact he’s going to give the speech after all, at the time and place of his choosing, just try and stop him?

Let's not forget Sean Hannity, Jeanne Pirro, and Rush Limbaugh. They can be as vicious as well.

Trump will be lucky to have changed his mind by noon Thursday. He is probably stewing right now.

I've been saying the 5 billion-ish is just a down payment. The republicans will run on the wall in 2020 regardless of what happens now. It's become a dog whistle.

I wonder if the primary announcement was a condition for a cave. I'll be contrarian and say he caves and does the SOTU.

I think he’s scared because his approval rating is tanking.

I dont think he wrote that tweet, so let’s see what happens tomorrow. Senate vote is pretty key.

drumpf later said he'd sign anything that McTurtle and Schumer sent him, because, he has other options, in other words, a declaration of national emergency. Who can believe anything the fat orange slob says and he knows that the emergency order will not survive judicial review because it's a total made up lie - which is probably why he'll choose that route so he can make it seem like he really cares about this when we know it's just a fake line for the idiots who follow him.

Like you I suspect he's going to give up on the chamber address, but he's going to try and find a way to get his airtime for his rant. It's his way to spin this into a win. The problem is getting anyone other than FOX to actually air him. That's going to be, basically, impossible at this point.

Nancy has him in a corner and he knows it. They tried to strong arm her and she didn't budge. His opinions now are to trash Speaker Pelosi (he wants to, but she holds way too much power over him as he's just now fully realizing), or give his build the wall speech in another venue where he can more broadly blame the Democrats for the shutdown. Which brings us back to he needs a national audience beyond FOX for this to work. So, he's just going to bluster, lie and kick the STOU can down the road for now.

Mitch McConnell is the one responsible for this insanity when all is said and done. He's trying to play a balancing act in the GOP where he can personally keep his head firmly up Trump's bum, not cost any political fallout for threatened GOP Senators in less Trump friendly states and keep his support back in his Trump loving state.

Meanwhile, back at base camp the GOP are trying to stave off the political fallout by a possible primary of Trump by banning the possibility. Which is a great way to further drive a wedge in their already fractured party.

Interesting days were living in now.

If this weren't my home country I'd find all of this fascinating in a train wreck sort of way. As it is, I just find myself in a perpetual state of shock and disgust at how far we've fallen as a nation.

He's too petty to give in to anyone on anything. He has something else, maybe a rally, some attention grabbing event in mind to spew his divisiveness and hatred.

edited to add: Apparently, there's a guy on Fox & Friends who wrote a fawning book. He'll cling to that for a while.

We'll see what the next 48 hours bring.

A great new book just out, “Game of Thorns,” by Doug Wead, Presidential Historian and best selling author. The book covers the campaign of 2016, and what could be more exciting than that?
