Furloughed District Heights residents frustrated over letter from apartment complex

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - As the government shutdown drags into a second month, it’s getting harder for some furloughed federal employees to make rent.

Tenants of the Avanti Apartment complex, many of whom are furloughed federal workers, reached out to FOX 5 Tuesday after receiving what they believed to be a threatening letter from their landlord.

The letter, which is posted on doors throughout the complex, reads in part, “If you have a past due balance over $1,500, it will be to your best interest to see Mr. Shelton today, 1/22/19 before 4:00 pm to pay

Local affiliates and the Faux News are separate. And getting stories like this out to the Fox demographic helps.

is the URL of WTTG, the local Fox Broadcasting affiliate in DC. Fox Broadcasting and Fox News are two entirely separate operations.

I've been watching WTTG, which is the station that calls itself Fox 5, since it was a DuMont affiliate. I watched the Channel 5 news last night (on channel 20.1, which is a subchannel of Channel 5).

WTTG broadcasts over the air. Fox News is distributed via cable and satellite. They are not the same. Both have the same owner (News Corp.), but that's where the similarities end.

We must recognize that local Fox affiliates don't get marching orders from Fox News.

I'm not a landlord but as I understand it, landlord evictions can take up to 4 or 5 months and must be heard in court before they're final. Hopefully this shutdown will be over long before then.
