Okay, seriously, why so much talk about the wall instead of about immigration issues?

We hear about the wall all the time, but not so much about problems with people and drugs entering illegally. Congress is trying to pass some bills, but the overall commentary --everywhere -- is about the wall.

The wall isn't an end in itself (okay, okay, it is to some people). It's a means to an end: a solution to a problem. So why do we (as in people in the US and the media) keep focusing on this one solution instead of on the problem? Is it just easier to talk about? I'm just fascinated by how easily some discussions get sidetracked.

3. Because saying "the wall" is the only way Trump's addled brain can handle the issue of immigration

Before it became the chief sticking point in a government shutdown drama that threatens to consume his presidency at a critical moment, President Trump’s promise to build a wall on the southwestern border was a memory trick for an undisciplined candidate.

As Mr. Trump began exploring a presidential run in 2014, his political advisers landed on the idea of a border wall as a mnemonic device of sorts, a way to make sure their candidate — who hated reading from a script but loved boasting about himself and his talents as a builder — would remember to talk about getting tough on immigration, which was to be a signature issue in his nascent campaign.

“How do we get him to continue to talk about immigration?” Sam Nunberg, one of Mr. Trump’s early political advisers, recalled telling Roger J. Stone Jr., another adviser. “We’re going to get him to talk about he’s going to build a wall.”

Talk Mr. Trump did, and the line drew rapturous cheers from conservative audiences, thrilling the candidate and soon becoming a staple of campaign speeches. Chants of “Build the wall!” echoed through arenas throughout the country.

that's just putting the attention on T instead of on where it belongs.

Oh, wait, yeah, he wants the attention.

6. The wall is no "solution" to anything

It's just something the trump criminal team has used very effectively to motivate trump's base and "justify" demonizing and blaming immigrants for everything that ails the country.

Most drugs come through ports of entry. Most people who become undocumented overstay their visas after coming in through points of entry.

A wall is not "solution".

7. Because the "problem" is overblown

Immigration is relatively stable, stopping drugs at the border never has, and never will work. Immigration issues are mostly about people thinking they are entitled IMHO.

It's what he shilled for the most during the elections and it's success or failure will be the biggest factor for 2020.

11. "Wall" is a word the dolt in chief can understand.

Easy to pronounce, one syllable, only four letters and and a simple concept. That all makes it easy for him to remember and yammer on about.
