Joe Manchin will vote for Trump's plan to end shutdown

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced Thursday that he will vote for President Trump's proposal to reopen the government, making him the first Senate Democrat to back the plan that includes $5.7 billion for a border wall.

The big picture: Manchin will also vote for a Democrat-backed clean spending bill, joining at least 3 Republicans — Sens. Cory Gardner, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — who have said they will vote for both bills in an effort to end the shutdown. Manchin acknowledged that neither bill is likely to pass the Senate, but said his votes "are a start to finding a way to reopen the [government and getting West Virginians] back to work."

Considering Trump got 68.5% of the vote in West Virginia, I’ll choose him over a straight line party (sleazebag) loyalist like McConnell any day.

Separately, it seems like pure self-interest would call for him just changing parties, so points to him for not doing so.

1. He votes with us more often than not.
2. Remember Joe Lieberman?
3. He and Sherrod Brown are in the same book club.

Well, I dunno about No. 3, but I think the first two check out.

He won with almost 70 percent of the vote.

Most Democrats in West Virginia are still fairly conservative. She lost the primary by 40 percent, she would have gotten absolutely destroyed in the general.

Just an objective observation that anyone seen as working with Trump will likely be primaried next election cycle.

would find themselves in hell if they voted for anything other than the Democratic Party Plan. But Booker and Menendez have mandates from the people in a very blue state.

None of them want the wall. But they all want to be paid for the work they are currently doing, and don't care if the bill funding it includes money for the wall or not.

It’s true that he beats me, but he always brings me flowers after.

I believe that if Democratic leadership sent an articulate, down-to-earth, people-oriented Democrat to West Virginia, the voter’s would listen. It seems foolish to think that West Virginians don’t care about health care or their kids’ education or student loan debt or infrastructure or poverty or Russian influence or decent jobs or rural economic development or child care....on and on.

Why should we automatically accept Joe Manchin continuously kissing Trump’s ass? Give him some competition and let’s see which way his wind blows.

So that means we don’t even have to try until Manchin chooses to retire. Perfect. I bet Trump will like that.

Following the logic of some, (as he does represent the Trumpiest of all the 50 states) if he votes to convict he will be signing his own political death warrant. That means all his multiple bad, bad votes siding with the RW were for naught, if one uses the excuse that he had to vote that way to stay elected, an excuse that will, at that point, be rendered null and void.

Manchin and the newly elected Sinema of AZ (her's is based off House votes) have by far the highest Trump scores of all Democrats now in the entire Congress, along with Rep.Henry Cuellar, all 3 voting with Trump over 60% of the time. Gillibrand, by the way has the lowest Trump score of all Senators. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/
