HISTORY NEWS NETWORK - COMMENTARY 24 JAN 2019 AT 10:45 ET
A criminal President, who will do anything to serve his ego and self-interest, threatened with jail. A party willing to fix elections and ignore electoral results that dont go their way. Cheerleaders on the most popular media network who ignore inconvenient news. A howling base of supporters that believes Trumps opponents are traitors who belong in jail.
All the elements are in place for a presidential coup against our constitutional democracy. Paul Krugman just wrote about a possible reaction to looming defeat in 2020: if you arent scared about how a cornered Trump might lash out, you havent been paying attention. It will be too late in November 2020 to prevent a national emergency. We must pay attention now.

(4,307 posts)The First Book of the prophet Samuel tells how the nation of Israel at first had no king but rather a council of judges who set and administered the laws and policies and actions of the nation, over which the prophet Samuel presided. Apparently Samuel appointed his sons to be chief judges, and they took bribes and perverted justice. Then a group of the people came to Samuel and demanded, "Appoint for us a King to rule over us, like the other nations, and go out before us, and fight our battles for us." When Samuel prayed about it, he received a message in which God told him to warn the people about how a king would oppress them and overwork them and take the best of everything away from them. But God also told him, "in demanding a king, they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them." Authoritarians keep trying to claim that God wants strong bullies to rule over them, yet here God is quoted arguing against the idea of kings.

(67,111 posts)many Americans still can't comprehend what is going on so many are so damn naive and gullible. And many IMO have no concept of historical events and how really bad shit can happen.
