by Ken Meyer | Jan 25th, 2019, 8:37 am
An emerging newsflash indicates that Steve Bannon might have been the one who directed Roger Stone to be a contact between WikiLeaks and the Trump Campaign during the 2016 election.
-snip-
According to CNBC, a source told them that Bannon, Trumps former campaign CEO, was one of the senior officials who reached out to Stone at the time. The special counsel reportedly understands that Bannon texted Stone around October 7, 2016, to praise him after the first round of hacked DNC emails were made public.
From the report:
Bloombergs Joshua Green is also highlighting recent reports that corroborate the indications that Bannon and Stone spoke to each other about WikiLeaks just before the organization started releasing their email trove.

(7,947 posts)Nunberg's talked to Mueller no doubt-- remember the wise and beautiful Maya Wiley actually changed his mind to do so on live TV-- and implicated Stone ("my surrogate father," gag). He's probably turned a deal of some kind.
Carter Page is such a space cadet, Mueller probably didn't get anything useful from him. "Russia? No, no, most of my communications have been with Andromeda and the Moon!" Wild cackling giggles.
Caputo has some exposure connected to Stone. Someone purporting to represent the Russkies - in "late May, 2016", so very close to this time- had contacted Caputo's "Russian-immigrant business partner". Caputo presumably told this "Greenberg" to talk to Stone about it.
Later, Stone got a text message from Michael Caputo, a Trump campaign communications official whod arranged the meeting after Greenberg had approached Caputos Russian-immigrant business partner.
So Caputo ("senior communications aide for campaign" gets contacted by a Russian promising dirt. Sends him to Stone. Supposedly nothing comes of this (Russian wants $$). They both conceal this meeting from investigators (who apparently found out from text messages).

(22,918 posts)The Stone indictment indicates that After the July 22, 2016 release of stolen DNC emails by Organization 1, a senior Trump Campaign official was directed to contact STONE about any additional releases".
If it was Bannon who received that direction, I am curious about the exact timing. If it happened before 8/17/2016 than Manaford would have outranked him and therefor could have "directed him" to contact Stone. Far as I know though, Bannon had no official role in the campaign before the shuffle that sent Manaford out the door. Therefor he would not rightfully be described as a senior Campaign official prior to 8/17/2016.
After 8/17/2016 Bannon was the CEO of the Trump campaign, which begs the question. Who in the Trump orbit was high ranking enough to "direct" the campaign CEO. Kellyanne sure as hell doesn't qoesn't qualify.

(7,947 posts)Bannon might have been the one to TELL Mueller though. He acts like he's this cool rebellious Fonzie character, still all relevant and tough and Trumper, but he talked to Mueller's group for a lot of hours.
So the Bannon part might be:
Trump told Manafort (or... someone else? Please be Kushner!) to direct Stone about additional releases.
Maybe Bannon knows about this, and told Mueller.
Bannon probably has already cut a deal, so we might be hearing about a guilty plea soon. Or maybe he won't even have to plead guilty.

(7,947 posts)He and Stone go way back-- had a dastardly "lobbying" firm together for years.
But Bannon-- well, remember he said he'd talked to the Mueller group for many hours.
