A customs agent who hasn't been paid for a month sure would find a few hundred dollars persuasive

I'm absolutely not impugning the honor of CBP agents, at all, I'm saying when you have a family you will do whatever it takes to keep them fed. So would I. That's why this shutdown is an egregious threat to our national security.

No way in HELL even with a starving family. Putting food in their stomachs doesn't override ALL ethical considerations. That's ridiculous. You are implying that push come to shove -everyone- with few or no exceptions would act corruptly and in their own self interest. If that's true then the USA really is doomed because all we really have, push come to shove, is the strength of our ideas and ideals.

Sorry, I'm just not willing to go along with you on this one.
