Kentucky Catholic Bishop: Trump's MAGA Hats Are Not 'Pro-Life'

A Kentucky Catholic bishop is admonishing the Covington Catholic High School students who confronted a Native American man in Washington, D.C., in a video that went viral last week ― insisting that the teens can’t claim to be “pro-life” while wearing President Donald Trump’s “Make America great again” hats.

The Rev. John Stowe, the bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, said that being “pro-life” also means valuing the lives of immigrants and refugees ― something he said he strongly believes Trump has failed to do.

“It astonishes me that any students participating in a pro-life activity on behalf of their school and their Catholic faith could be wearing apparel sporting the slogans of a president who denigrates the lives of immigrants, refugees and people from countries that he describes with indecent words and haphazardly endangers with life-threatening policies,” Stowe wrote in an op-ed for the Lexington Herald-Leader on Wednesday.

He said he is “ashamed” that the students’ actions have contradicted the goals of the March for Life, the massive annual anti-abortion rally the teens were in D.C. to attend.

The vast majority of Hispanic Catholics (74 percent) and a slim majority of white Catholics (52 percent) surveyed said they have a negative opinion of Trump, according to a Public Religion Research Institute study conducted last fall.

Sadly, the rest of the US Catholic church leadership has basically been corrupted by GOP talking points.

The hate will mostly come from the Fundies--but they are all going to hell anyway, so who cares what Fundies think?

- are against government programs that help feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, protect the weak, and aid the sick and poor and needy.

- don’t believe in climate change.

- favor unrestricted gun ownership.

- support the death penalty.

- hate government regulations that protect our air quality, water quality, the safety of our food, drugs, cars, and such, and safeguard us from pollution and polluters.

- find human rights bothersome or silly or otherwise not worth our time or concern.

And more. Those are just some. Now INCLUDING:

- if you don’t value the lives of immigrants and refugees.

As a never practicing ethnic Catholic who actually likes the current pope a lot, I felt that those MAGA-t had wearings kids were a disgrace to their (purported) religion. What differentiates Catholic Right to Life from Fundamentalist Right to Life? Catholics give a shit about the baby after it is born.
