President Donald Trump is very worried that his longtime ally Roger Stone will turn on him after Special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted him on seven counts in the Russia investigation on Friday, according to Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman.
Sherman cited several anonymous sources within Trumps orbit, as well as Michael Caputo and Sam Nunberg, who are friends with Stone. They said that Stone has been expecting to get indicted for months now something Stone has said publicly.
Stone insisted after appearing in Court that he will not plead guilty to the charges against him on Friday, adding: There is no circumstance whatsoever under which I will bear false witness against the president.
However, he did not rule out ever working with prosecutors nor potentially telling them the truth about Trump, whatever that may be.
Sherman reports that, despite Stones implications to the contrary, theres good reason to believe he may flip on Trump. One Republican close to Trump told Sherman that, Stone knows Donald isnt loyal. He calls him Mr. Ingratitude.

(33,587 posts)first the bravado, then when they realize Mueller has them dead to rights, they flip.
Stone might think Trump will pardon him, but in the end, he'll flip.

(16,863 posts)Obviously in RW nut job world, if you "flip", you must have been forced into lying to save yourself. But what if we take this statement literally. "I will not bear false witness against the President" doesn't preclude him from telling the truth about what happened.

(14,764 posts)Is that he won't have a voice in jail. That is a death sentence to a guy like stone (or trump).
In jail, nobody can read your tweets, or pay you to appear on cable teehee, and you can't easily even write articles anyone will be interested in.
He will soon realize that. And will want no part of it.

(14,764 posts)He lives in FL, but has an appt in NYC that was raided and searched at the same time he was arrested.
To get a search warrant, they needed cause. And if they have cause in nyc, then nys likely has charges they can bring.
Stay tuned.

(4,379 posts)He will go to trial, he thinks he can win, and like Manafort will be convicted, put in prison. Then he might flip.

(58,724 posts)As opposed to "The National Memo" paraphrasing of it.
Seems like if Gabriel Sherman did the reporting for Vanity Fair, then Vanity Fair ought to get the traffic, no?
Many news outlets are losing revenue because folks look for ways to avoid paywalls by using sites like "National Memo" and "Raw Story" that paraphrase the work of great reporters and essentially deprive the outlets that hire them of the revenue they deserve.
DU oughtn't contribute to this phenomenon, in my opinion.
If anyone ought to be helping sites like Vanity Fair stay viable, it should be politically-minded progressives like us.

Birds of a feather, as it were.
