Let me tell you a secret - locals rarely go to the beach in January and February - the water is way too cold for us. We spent 25 going to the beach on Saturday mornings - running the beach, swimming and then eating fish and chatting with regulars. No one needed a watch to know the time - you knew it based on the time regulars and arrived and left. I ran into three folks who used to arrive at 11.30am on the dot every Saturday. We had a good laugh about the good old days. They remembered us packing up when they arrived - we were the early shift. That once lovely Hellshire beach is now gone. 
I just want the warm sun!
I used to live 100 yards from the beach. Up here on America's great Northern coast (lake Michigan). I miss it, especially when it's 10 below!
