Brexit : The Andrew Marr Show 27/01/2019 with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney

Previously, Broadcaster John Humphrys says to the Irish Minister of State for European Affairs on BBC Radio 4, "why doesn't Ireland leave the EU and rejoin the UK ?" .... yes he really said that. I'm no Irish Nationalist, but 800 fucking years of British Rule over Ireland kinda rules that one out.

A veteran BBC presenter caused some feathers to ruffle when he suggested the problems to Brexit could be solved by Ireland lumping in with Britain.
John Humphrys, who has been a host on BBC Radio 4's Today show since 1987, spoke to Ireland's Minister for European Affairs Helen McEntee in what was one of the most painful pieces of radio to listen to as an Irish person.

Humphrys has been criticised over the interview for being either completely misinformed about the Irish situation, or blissfully ignorant where it suited his own views.

Speaking to McEntee ahead of the January 29 Brexit deadline, Humphrys suggested that all would be green again if Ireland "throw their lot in with the UK" and left the European Union.

This is of course completely ignorant of the fact that a recent Red-C poll suggested that 92% of Irish people favoured staying in the European Union.

Humphrys came in for intense criticism online for the statements, with Labour MP Ben Bradshaw branding the piece a "woeful ignorance of history & of modern day Ireland."

The way I understand it, is that the Republic of Ireland will stay with the EU and Northern Ireland will stay with the UK.

I just really wish they would do another vote ( like I wish we could re-vote 2016) because I think the British people might vote to stay in the EU.

Some of the northern dissident Irish republicans are already emboldened by the border discussions.
