Kamala Harris Jumps to the Front of the 2020 Pack

https://politicalwire.com/2019/01/27/kamala-harris-jumps-to-the-front-of-the-2020-pack/

"SNIP.....

Even before Kamala Harris’ campaign launch in Oakland on Sunday, her nascent 2020 bid had already hit full gallop — a star turn on Good Morning America, a self-reported seven-figure fundraising milestone, a friendly reception in a key primary state,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

“With that fast start, Harris has stoked a perception that she is not just an elite candidate, but among the Democratic front-runners — a designation that is loaded with both upside and danger in this very early stage of presidential jockeying.”

“The California senator and her campaign strategists aren’t yet declaring her the favorite. But her days-long debut, crafted for maximum impact, showed a desire to make a big and early splash.”

.....SNIP"

He lost because he couldn’t get admiring rally crowds to show up and vote in IA and NH. A cautionary question is: is getting elected in today’s CA a good proving ground for running against a Republican in competitive battleground States.

A California background would enable a ready-made attack. Many swing voters would deem Harris too liberal via that alone.

I'm in Florida, the ultimate swing state and where 46% of the electorate indicated that Andrew Gillum was too liberal for the state, according to the exit poll. Now transfer a female from California atop the ticket here. I don't see how the swing voters go for that, including the Cubans who voted majority Obama in 2012. We would be almost entirely dependent on Trump having a severe low approval rating in November 2020. I would prefer someone who can win on his/her own, even if the incumbent rises in popularity, which is normal toward the end of his first term.

I hope someone like Beto and/or Klobuchar enters the race. I would be far more relaxed regarding likability, regionalism, and also political instincts.

I may end up voting for Kamala in the Florida primary. This is hardly a cemented opinion. I much prefer her above Warren or Gillibrand. But as of today I'll trust my early instincts that Harris comes across in first glimpses as more special than she is. I was very disappointed in her questioning of Kavanaugh, especially in comparison to Klobuchar, who was incredibly relaxed and fluid, as opposed to Harris who had a ready made game plan and no evidence she could adjust. That type of relaxed likable adjustment is vital during a long campaign with all the inevitable surprises.

She had more electricity in her announcement and speech today than I've seen from the others.

I think she established herself as a definite serious contender today.

That will give her an early advantage that she is already well known there. She can spend more money in the early states (IA, NH, SC) and not have to also spend money and time in California. Like all the others will have to do.

This is good in my book. Right now she is my pick.

.. declare a frontrunner this early; plenty of other qualified candidates, the most diverse field ever, why even bother with diversity when we declare a frontrunner before the campaigning even starts?

Hope in regards to politics shows a lack of rational thought to be a voter (six of one, half a dozen of the other-- and each as petulant as the other)

if someone new jumps in and has a good start they usually rise pretty quickly in the polls...doesn't mean she stays there, but pretty confident the next batch of polls will see her at or near the top.
