Howard Schultz says he's 'seriously considering' 2020 bid as 'centrist independent'

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on Sunday said that he is "seriously considering" a 2020 presidential bid as a "centrist independent."

"I love our country, and I am seriously considering running for president as a centrist independent," Schultz tweeted after making his Twitter debut earlier on Sunday.

"This moment is like no other," Schultz wrote, linking to his website. "Our two parties are more divided than ever. Let’s discuss how we can come together to create opportunities for more people. #ReimagineUS."

Schultz in an interview with The New York Times published Sunday confirmed that he is preparing a bid. He said he will make his final decision after a three-month book tour starting soon.

“Republicans and Democrats alike — who no longer see themselves as part of the far extreme of the far right and the far left — are looking for a home,” Schultz told the Times. “The word ‘independent,’ for me, is simply a designation on the ballot.”

One can only hope he does no better than the typical 3rd party candidate.

In a sane country, his version of "centrism" would be mainstream Republicanism. So, in theory, he'd hurt Trump more than the Democratic nominee, but this ain't a sane nation.

But this isn’t 1992. We weren’t at each other’s throats back then.

In every presidential election, there are 3rd party candidates who take votes from both major party candidates.

But that wasn't really my point. My point is that "centrism" in the US would be considered "right wing" were this a sane country. I don't know exactly what positions Schultz will take, but I suspect he would more or less mirror Bloomberg. And I suspect his impact will be negligible.

His only purpose for running would be to boost his public profile and wealth.

I don't see this as a big threat to our side: quite the contrary. Another clueless zillionaire? No thanks.

Notice who's pushing this and you'll see who they are appealing to: Steve Schmidt is trying to launch a lifeboat before the R party sinks to the bottom. Sorry dude but YOU bear responsibility for the current debacle too: we remember Princess Dumbass of the Northwoods* and she was your gift to the political discourse. I'm thinking this guy might be almost as successful.

If there is one thing we have learned in the past few weeks it's that political experience counts and is really necessary to undo all of Trump's f-ups (Thank you Nancy!) All the "great" ideas in the world will go no where without political savvy and experience in how Government works.

to our country's woes. Most of them don't have a fucking clue. He doesn't have a chance in hell of winning and will only siphon off votes from the Democratic candidate. WTF does he think he is doing? Doesn't he know that he will only help Trump?
