Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs our wonderful slate of presidential candidates go through "the process", it is going to be ugly.
At this point, either everyone has some sort of skeleton in their closet - a bad vote, a misinformed word, a bad day slip up, a prior-to-evolving position - or skeletons will be invented. Add to that all of the malfeasance - paid trolls, ignorant trolls, foreign try-to-influence-our-election trolls - but mostly lying trolls. Plus, there is no perfect candidate for all - our country is too divided, there are too many issues that are local. Finally....the media. The vast majority want a horse race, clicks, eyeballs and controversy.
We are already at a position where misinformation is everywhere, and we have a country that is not particularly high on research, and critical thinking. Little to nothing has been done to remedy this on social media. Throw in the diversity of our candidates and inevitable reactions from the various haters on the right wing....
I don't for a second think this is going to be anything but a really rough road to the eventual ticket. Whoever becomes the candidate will be highly battled tested. But....I am hopeful (any time we can ponder tossing the bum in the white house out should bring hope).
Of course, it would be super helpful if Mueller's report and the fall out does a bit of pre-election pruning!
Buckle up....

(12,448 posts)including and especially Bernie Sanders. I know some want to make an exception for him, but it ain't gonna happen.
The truth is there is no perfect candidate (not even Bernie!). Everyone makes mistakes; vetting involves the severity and frequency of those mistakes. Every candidate will be and should be vetted with that in mind by both the party and the public.

(149,678 posts)I plan to study and read about the candidates and see how things shake out before I commit to who I think would be best for our country.
It's true that some folks have already made up their minds, but it's too early for me.
One thing this whole process won't be: boring!
