National park saw irreparable damage including vandalism, ruined trails and trees cut down, says former superintendent.
The former superintendent of Joshua Tree national park has said it could take hundreds of years to recover from damage caused by visitors during the longest-ever government shutdown.
Whats happened to our park in the last 34 days is irreparable for the next 200 to 300 years, Curt Sauer said at a rally over the weekend, according to a report from the Desert Sun. Sauer retired in 2010 after running the park for seven years.

(621 posts)To recruit volunteers to stay in and protect our most precious, endangered national parks. Close them down, by all means, but dont leave the parks unprotected. Im sure people who loved the parks were trying. I would bet on that. But, for example, my husband has a degree in a bunch of weird stuff. One is forestry. Were both retired. If someone could loan us an RV, we could make that trip across the nation in a few days, get trained, and plant ourselves at an entrance with a giant CLOSED DUE TO SHUTDOWN sign blocking the way. Id bet we could call up quite an army. Just combine resources and fight back!

You are correct, this did NOT happen in the 2013 shutdown. Willing to bet JTNP isn't the only park MAGAts tore apart.

(50,563 posts)Thanks to this particular knucklehead, there seems to be a whole legion of people whose only purpose in life is to torment liberals. They knew cutting down Joshua trees would do it, so that's what they did.
You realize it is going to be SOOO sweet when the Mueller Report comes out.
