Yahoo News:Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is proving to be a star among Congress's freshman class, and sometimes she uses her beauty look to make bold statements on culture and identity. With all of the attention surrounding her makeup choices, it's not surprising that people noticed her great skin and started asking questions about her daily routine. The newly elected congresswoman put speculation to bed by sharing on Instagram exactly how she gets her glow. "People want me to post my skincare routine," she wrote in a story, and goes on to list an extremely detailed breakdown of what she uses every day without being, as she wrote, "too product placementy."
Her first step in the extensive routine is double cleansing. "If you wear makeup - esp foundation," she explains, "you should double cleanse." She adds that she uses "a balm or oil to melt off the makeup and then use a usual soapy cleanser to wash your skin." But the big takeaway from her first step is to make sure you get makeup off your face before bed. Start with makeup wipes, she suggests, to help break the habit of sleeping in makeup.
Next, she uses toner without alcohol (suggesting plain witch hazel) and adds actives, like a Vitamin C serum. For her last step, she uses moisturizer and sunscreen. "Use a moisturizer that works with your skin," she writes. "I find moisturizer to be one of the most personal steps bc everyone's skin is different and it's like finding jeans that fit." The sunscreen is "the most important thing," and she's been using it daily since she was 19.
She also notes that she experiments with tools and face masks, noting that her approach is a blend between "K-beauty and scientific consensus." AOC also says her skin problems went away when she cut out dairy.
