I say yes. Never been a fan of the British royal family anyway.

(9,124 posts)No matter what, Harry will always be a prince...but he could have removed himself from the line of succession!

(14,249 posts)I can't believe the foolish lengths people go to try to deflect blame away from Northam.
Wow.

Still, I was surprised.

(58,785 posts)difference between the antipathy of bigots to American POC and to Jews, indigenous peoples around the planet, whites, or any other group outside of the bigoted ones' tribe, rejecting bigotry against one is fighting for all. After all, scratch an antisemite of any color and you will find race-based antipathies toward others also.
If the Nazis left any POC alive and unenslaved (that was the plan) in Europe, it was only because they were stopped before they could finish the job. They planned the same for the "inferior," white but non-Aryan, "races" of eastern Europe and Eurasia. And today across Europe and America we're seeing a resurgence of their evil. We really need to be talking about that and recognizing it for the giant threat for all of us that it is, because it's just the same old malignancy POC have always had to fight growing bigger and stronger.

(58,785 posts)playing around in costumes, but sympathizing and even actively collaborating with Hitler and his National Socialists. There are theories, with at least some evidence to support, that active treason was at least contemplated by the abdicated Duke of York. Apparently he was well known to regret his abdication but admired Hitler's style of rule and made it clear that he wouldn't want to share power with a parliament.

(428 posts)....they excuse it by saying "Well whatabout!!!" It's known as "whataboutism" and it's joked about and referenced on here quite a bit when it happens to Republican. And it's rampant on here today.

(9,124 posts)think Northan should resign (I do, by the way after his press conference) applied the same standard elsewhere.
doompatrol39
(428 posts)Because yeah, that's relevant right now, here, when discussing a US politician in 2019.
The issue is Northam. The question is, where people stand on what he did.
Deflecting to anything else is 100% whataboutism and an attempt to excuse racism because he has a D after his name.

(14,249 posts)So racist that he and his African American wife are about to give the Queen her first black great-grandchild.
But let's try to deflect attention from the governor of Virginia's racist past and bizarrely non-accountable present by talking about an English prince

(9,124 posts)part of the seventy million who died in WW2. It isn't funny to dress as a Nazi to a party. The other symbolized oppression based on race. We have two very similar situations. Do those who say Northam should resign, also think Harry should have walked away from his life of privilege? I am looking to see if the same standards are applied.
