Northam calls Sunday night staff meeting as he considers resignation
By Gregory S. Schneider, Laura Vozzella and Jenna Portnoy February 3 at 7:20 PM
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam called an unscheduled senior staff meeting Sunday night just before the start of the Super Bowl, as the governor considers resigning after two days of defiance amid a controversy over racist photos in his medical school yearbook.
People familiar with the meeting, which continued into the night, said the governor had not reached a final decision about his fate as the discussion began. It was unclear who is at the meeting besides that it involved senior staffers of color. But Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, who would become governor if Northam resigned, was not there, the people said.
Before the meeting, Northam spent much of the day in seclusion at his family home on the Eastern Shore as confidantes delivered conflicting advice about whether he should resign or continue fighting to clear his name, according to people close to the governor.

The longer he drags this out, the more credibility he's giving those disgusting photos!

And if he resigns a lot of his aides will lose their jobs too. What a mess he's made dragging this out. Very poor leadership.

in consultation with people who will be living - at least to some extent - with the consequences of the decision pales in comparison with a football game.
You are aware that much of his staff serves at his discretion - right? If he resigns, his decision may cost a signifiant number of people their jobs. Maybe it's a good thing that consults wtih them on this decision.
