He's a smarmy, entitled, self-aggrandizing piece of shit. He's cheated in more ways than one. He is not somebody I would associate with.
As an NFL quarterback, though, he is absolutely the best to ever play the game.

On the other hand, thank god for that 199th draft pick huh??

(2,419 posts)the fault line between Trumpers and anti-Trumpers has been submerged at big family dinners by mutual agreement -- but the exact same fault line, with the same members, came up fiercely on Brady.

(8,704 posts)About the owner and coach of the team. What we all know what trump is, and what the owner of the football said about Trump. Then you have a coach that wrote that letter for trump in 2016. Remember?
I think trump being one of the most racist and treasonous persons we have had in the White House and in our country's history says a lot about the people who support him.

(63,221 posts)Something about him just rubs me the wrong way. I am not a sports fan, but I live in Boston and I never hear the end of Brady worship around here.
I guess he is a great quarterback, but I have no admiration for sports heroes. It's just not something that impresses me.

Fact is the team won the superbowls and not Brady on his own.

(31,261 posts)The NFL ran checks at several cold weather game the season after fining Brady, the NFL destroyed the data without reporting one bit of it. I am pretty sure that I know what the data showed. Also, why do you think the NFL now keep game balls in temperature controlled trunks during games?

(31,261 posts)Someone is going to have to be cold blooded enough that when Brady leads a touchdown drive, the opposing QB comes right back and lead his own TD drive, like Foles did last year and Eli Manning did in 2007-2008.

(8,704 posts)There are QBs in the 90s, 80s, and 70s that I would take over Tom Brady with these rules today. He's a good QB, but he's also a right-wing racist pos. Again the rules are slanted big time against defenses.

(18,125 posts)You young whippersnappers don't remember Unitas, Starr, Staubach, Marino, Montana, etc.
What Brady has is the best system around him. At least I assume so. The Patriots have been caught cheating in several different ways throughout the Belicheck era. We don't know how many times they've cheated and not got caught.
BlueTsunami2018
(3,492 posts)No one was more a product of his system than Montana. He just ran it to perfection. So does Brady. Trying to diminish him by citing the system is ridiculous.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)It involved short to intermediate passes and using backs as receivers. Brady runs a modified West Coast Offense, using slightly longer distance passes, but still having backs as pass catchers.
elias7
(4,007 posts)Perhaps if Staubach or Marino or Montana had a better system around them, they would have won 6 Super Bowls

(43,182 posts)Extremely, extremely effective, mind you, but boring.
There have been a lot of quarterbacks who are a lot more exciting than Brady in terms of style.
Brady is full of 15 yard slants to Gronk and Edelman.
He just happens to be extremely good at that sort of thing.
sir pball
(4,743 posts)But those slants to Edelman and Gronk (6'6", 268#, runs a 4.48) aren't as easy as you say.

(16,829 posts)Brady is lucky to belong to a well coached team. Without the team (and its highly effective cheating) he's nothing special.
And I agree that "He's a smarmy, entitled, self-aggrandizing piece of shit. He's cheated in more ways than one."

(16,672 posts)I don't think that claim could be made.
Even then so many factors play into that, quality of teammates etc. I hate it when any sport claims one player is the best ever. It's just not realistic to do so. Top five might make more sense.
And fuck that fascist anyway

And I'm a Peyton and Drew Brees fan. But really, can't argue with all those rings. And at his age! He should be mowing the lawn and buying lottery tickets!

(14,565 posts)No doubt there was legitimacy to some of it but this team is so remarkably smart and resourceful there is not a valid comparison to another team in any sport.
Montana and Brady are the two best I have ever seen. Montana was the superior athlete and played in a more difficult era, particularly given the awesome physical teams in the NFC during that time frame. But Brady is a more dedicated athlete who has maximized every facet of his game. His mechanics are near flawless. I have seen that broken down in several slow motion video examinations.
I enjoyed the interaction with his daughter tonight. There was such joy on her face while touching the Vince Lombardi Trophy. She'll savor that even more decades from now once she understands the historical significance.

especially quarterbacks, are practically worshiped in some schools - both college and high school. I think it contributes to their personalities - and it's evident in Brady. I think sports are great and contribute to overall learning... I wish more students had a wider range of sports to join. We celebrate many activities in school, but it seems like the kings and queens are always the football player and the cheerleader... The football player and the cheerleader are the gold standard... they are great activities, but not the only ones...
