With safety Eric Reid filing a collusion grievance against the NFL, Namath again offered his words of encouragement to the players and their protests against racial injustice.

(14,565 posts)Who cares? I attended Super Bowl III as a 9 year old. We sat in the lower west end zone of the Orange Bowl and rooted passionately for the AFL representative. I can still picture every pivotal play, including Jimmy Orr running smack toward us down the left sideline and waving his arms while wide open on the flea flicker just before halftime, only for Earl Morrall to never look his way, with the pass instead aimed over the middle and picked off at the last second by Randy Beverly at the goal line.
It was immense pride and verification for fans in every AFL city once the Jets won that game. It lasted for years. I am not going to set that aside and pretend it never existed, in favor of silly hatred of a divisional rival. Why are the Dolphins in the same division as the Jets? Long ago there should have been sensible realignment along regional lines. Pro rivalries are so meaningless compared to college anyway.
