Twitter CEO claims Trump is no worse than Obama on Joe Rogan podcast

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey appeared on the podcast run by comedian Joe Rogan and as the Daily Beast characterized it, claimed “Trump Is No Worse Than Obama.”

In the podcast, which was posted Saturday, Dorsey echoed previous comments in which he said that he would “talk about” what to do if Trump asked his followers to murder a specific journalist on his platform, though also said he would “take action.”

“Public figures might be in violation of our terms of service, but the tweet itself is of public interest,” Dorsey said “But the tweet itself is of public interest. It should be talked about. That is probably the thing people disagree with the most, and where we have a lot of internal debate. If we had a public leader, like the president of the United States, make a violent threat against a private individual, we would take action.”

Rogan asked if Trump tweets that could be seen as encouraging violence might be seen as violating Twitter’s terms of service and Dorsey said Trump’s tweets should be seen in “context.”

Specifically, he claimed that former President Barack Obama also made threats to other countries, such as North Korea, on Twitter.

“It was the context that presidents of this country have used similar language on different mediums,” Dorsey told Rogan. “They say it on radio, they say it on television. If you were to look at President Obama, it wasn’t the exact same tone, but there were threats surrounding the same country. We have to take that context into consideration.”

Twitter confirms 'significant' round of funding led by Russian investment company
Twitter has confirmed it has received “significant funding” from Yuri Milner’s DST Global.

While the micro-blogging site did not outline the size of investment led by the Russian investment company in a blog post, reports put the deal at $400m plus another $400m in secondary funding.

Twitter plans to use the funding for product development, hiring and international expansion.

Twitter published on the blog: “We’ve come very far in a short time. Now we have an opportunity to expand Twitter’s reach with a significant round of funding led by the venture firm DST Global, with the participation of several of our existing investors.

“We will use these resources to aggressively innovate, hire more great people and invest in international expansion.”

Twitter continues to grow around the globe at a record pace. Just a year ago, it delivered 65m tweets a day. It currently generates more than 200m tweets a day.

Russia funded Facebook and Twitter investments through Kushner investor

Institutions with close links to Kremlin financed stakes through investor in Trump son-in-law’s venture, leaked files reveal

Two Russian state institutions with close ties to Vladimir Putin funded substantial stakes in Twitter and Facebook through an investor who later acquired an interest in a Jared Kushner venture, leaked documents reveal. The investments were made through a Russian technology magnate, Yuri Milner, who also holds a stake in a company co-owned by Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser.

The discovery is likely to stir concerns over Russian influence in US politics and the role played by social media in last year’s presidential election. It may also raise new questions for the social media companies and for Kushner. Alexander Vershbow, who was a US ambassador to Russia under George W Bush and to Nato under Bill Clinton, said the Russian state institutions were frequently used as “tools for Putin’s pet political projects”.

Vershbow said the findings were concerning in light of efforts by Moscow to disrupt US democracy and public debate. “There clearly was a wider plan, despite Putin’s protestations to the contrary,” he said.

The investments are detailed in the Paradise Papers, a trove of millions of leaked documents reviewed by the Guardian, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and other partners, along with other previously unreported filings.

There is NO equivalence of anything that President Obama did that comes close to the pure evil of Donald Trump's every act.

Does anyone remember when Obama repeatedly called journalists, "enemy of the people" on twitter? Yeah, me neither.
